BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Buy now or pay later, that is the message from gun rights advocates to anyone wanting or needing a gun in the wake of Obama's victory.

Fears that President-elect Obama will strip away Second Amendment rights are fueling gun sales.

Before you ever even step foot into Classic Jewelry and Loan, the message is loud and clear. The sign reads, "Get your guns before Hussein Obama does!"

"I mirrored what the NRA is putting out there which is fact-based. President Obama is against the right to carry guns. He’s against any semi-automatic guns. He's actually against anyone under 21 owning a gun," said Rich Blakeman, owner of Classic Jewelry and Loan.

In this shop, guns are their bread and butter and lately business has been good.

"Conservatively, our business is up 80%," said Blakeman.

The surge in sales is partly due to a new radio advertisement he is running capitalizing on fear.

It says, "Fact: Just three years ago, Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sports shooting. Fact: Get your guns before your last chance is taken away. Get to Classic Jewelry and Loan before it's too late."

"Look at what he's done in the past, he has a voting record that supports gun restrictions," said Blakeman.

The latest issue of American Rifleman Magazine details President-elect Obama’s voting record.

"I would venture the membership of the UMWA probably owns more guns than anyone you've ever met." said Cecil Roberts, President of the United Mine Workers of America.

However that did not stop the Union from wholeheartedly supporting Obama for president.

"People think he's going to take their guns away and he's not," said one union member.

However gun enthusiasts like Brian Mullett are still concerned, "it puts you in the position where you may not be able to get what you want. So, you go into debt now because you may not be able to get it later," Mullett said.

"Plus there's the fact that there's the excise tax on ammunition. If that tax goes up 500%, then it's going to be too expensive to buy ammo and so we won't sell guns." said Todd Borders, co-owner of Borders Summit Market.

The owner of Classic Jewelry and Loan running the advertisements did admit he does not think President-elect Obama will even have time to focus on gun control given the economy, but still says anything is possible.

I am going to start referring to our President on January 20, 2009, as President Hussein. I will never buy anything from Classic Jewelry and Loan, ever! To the guy that is going to hoard all the water guns and stay in his Fort - not if I buy them all first. Do you think President Hussein will also ban BB guns and Cap guns? and what about SuperSoakers? I think I'll buy these up, too. Ya know, you can just never be too careful with an angry black Muslim as your president. Oh, I almost forgot, what do ya'll think President Hussein will do about Case knives? Darts? Firecrackers?

I believe you would buy a pill that promises you'll lose weight without trying. If Repubs really felt Obama was a terrorist, their accusations would not have ended with the election. If Repubs felt that Obama was not an American citizen, I believe there are intelligent investigators who would have uncovered this already (with proof). I believe that I live among some of the most gullible people in this entire world. You are either gullible or have brains made of Jello. Shame on the pawn shop for exposing and preying upon you for pure greed. The pawn shop owners know better because you cannot be this ignorant and run a business (with all the numbers and stuff).

Hal, Obama was just ducking and weaving when he brought up the "local issue" argument on gun control. Of course that is just what DC did with their handgun ban...which was overturned. I believe there are still restrictive gun laws on the books in Charleston, Dunbar and Martinsburg which were implemented by local ordinance. The local control argument is like saying he believes in the First Amendment but cities and states can inact laws to prohibit free (legal) speech. I am sure Bills will be now be passed which will restrict guns at the federal level...and he will sign them into law.

The bottom line is that anyone who would give up their guns , even if they were made illegal deserves to be hurt by home invaders. robbers , etc. It is your DUTY as a citizen to stand up against unconstitutional laws.The 2nd Amendment was not put into place so you could go hunting, it was put into place so that the people of this country could stand up against a government that had become tyrannical and selfish and no longer worked for the interest of the people. People do not see that Hitler, PolPot, Stalin, all these leaders disarmed the people of their countries. Once they could not defend themselves or challenge unconstitutional laws, they made the people do what the want. Once you give away your right to defend yourself you are over with.You will be lead to the slaughter like swine.This is a nation of once great leaders who stood up for what was right, when the times comes, where will you be standing ?? The 2nd Amendment is your right... do not let it be taken away from you !

Ok AH! People couldn't call him Hussien if that wasn't his name. He could have changed it when he had that birth certificate made in Hawaii, if that wasn't how he was. A girl had her's changed to male there in Hawaii, then had a baby in Oregon later! It had a wrist band on in the hospitle saying it was a male when the baby was delivered! This was on MSNBC the other day, Hosted by Barbara Walters. If this can be done they will put anything on a birth certificate there in Hawaii, and besided why hasn't this big Obama issue been questioned or hashed over on National tv if they can make a show like this? I think I'll go make sure my gun is loaded now ! !

Pablo, under Clinton's watch the most substantial federal gun restriction in history was passed. The so-called assault weapons ban, which was more about magazine limits and not that the guns were being used in assaults.

It's frustrating when people use his middle name, Hussein, because it is used to demonize him. People argue that it is is "god give name" but these same people were never saying John Sidney McCain. In fact, I didn't hear anyone refer to him as that throughout the election. It's sad that people are that bitter. Heck, I had to deal with Bush for eight long years, give someone else a chance.

There sure are alot of dumb people in our area. We heard the same thing about Bill Clinton a few years ago and as you know, guns are still legal. Of course anyplace that sells guns are going to claim that Obama will take your guns. And you know why? Because that way they will sell guns to stupid people who believes the lies. They will spread lies and fear so you'll spend what little money you have after the economic mess Bush and Cheney have made. Bill Clinton didn't take your guns. What he did do is put 100,000 more cops on the street. And where are those 100,000 cops now? They were cut in Bush/Cheney's tax cut for the wealthy. Forget about the 2nd Admenment and the fact that no president can take your guns. Just take your money and buy a gun like the gun shop owners want. Believe the lies and fears and vote republian again the next time and get another Bush/Cheney in the White House and watch the rich get richer. When you are stupid, you do stupid things. Greg, Read the constitution please !!!! The second amendment was not about deer season. It was written so that government or outside powers could not control the american citizens. MrObvious, they'll need to turn some of Congress to the anti-gun side before getting any anti-gun legislation passed. The majority of Congress supports gun ownership. Also, you are forgetting that the Bill of Rights (2nd Amendment) gives an individual the right to own a gun and this was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court for the first time this year. There will be no banning of gun ownership because Congress can't pass an un-Constitutional bill. They can regulate guns more, but not ban them outright. It will be harder for Congress to pass any anti-gun legislation now that the Supreme Court has ruled on the issue of the 2nd Amendment. This was not the case when the 1994 assault weapons ban passed. Any assault weapons ban would fail because the purpose of the original ban was to prove that it reduced crime. Studies concluded that was not the case. With checks and balances, a bill such as you suggest would not make it out of committee.

Obama said that he supported the DC handgun ban. After the Heller Supreme Court Decision, Obama says the Second Amendment is an individual right. Then he said that gun restrictions are a local issue. Does this sound like a circular argument? People aren't stupid (well, many aren't)...and the ad quoted in the article above has nothing to do with the tremendous increase in firearm and ammo sales across our nation as the result of his election.

If it is illegal to have a gun, the only people that will have them are people doing things illegally. People are overreacting somewhat, which is scaring some people and that is what preditors feed on is FEAR! Recently a home was broken into, all electronics were left, not a thing out of place for the exception of pain pills and a gun. If that idiot knew that someone was in the house holding a gun to him, I bet he would have had different thoughts. You have to protect yourself, but at the same time, you can not be so fearful that you build Fort Knox around your home. Remember, a lock only keeps an honest man - honest.

I hope before I die I can figure out a way to make money off stupid people like the gun stores are now. I know a guy that at the end of 1999 stocked his house with food, water, generators all kind of survival gear because he was afraid everything would shut down when the clock struck midnight and the year 2000 came. I bet him $3000.00 nothing would change but the time on his clock. He would not take my bet and said " I have made my bet". Anybody want to bet I will still have my guns this time next year without breaking the law?

This "fear" is based on his voting record & his past actions. The media continues to attempt to marginalize gunowners in this country, even after the Supreme Court squashed their anti-2nd Amendment agenda. WV has some of the most lax gun laws in the country, yet ranks 49th in handgun crimes. Conversely, the bastion of liberal idealism known as Washington, DC has the most stringent handgun laws in the country, yet consistently ranks 1st or 2nd each in crimes committed w/ a handgun. There's some "fear" for ya.

I live in Barboursville and have been considering purchasing a gun for home protection. I WILL NOT be going to Classic...EVER..for any reason. Your add and your sign either emulate a culture of HATE or a culture of GREED. One just as bad as the other. For years people have boo hoo'd that "dems are going to take our guns". Just as people have said adverse things about Republicans. I am so sick of this state of mind our country is in where we point our finger at an opposing group and find some reason to cause others to fear them in order to gain their support on view points. I had someone trying to get into my house and it took 15 minutes for the police to arrive. My town is 2 square miles. There was a gun waiting on the other side of the door. Maybe you liberals could have given the robbers you're life and belongings but not me.

It is amusing to read comments like "they will shoot themselves in the foot" and "drug dealers will steal them", etc. This narrow minded thinking that people are too dumb to own weapons or that it is their fault that someone steals from them is a classic anti-gun tactic. To those people all I can say is, not everyone is as stupid as you and blaming the victim has never been a valid reason for anything. Using your logic, since people break into houses, we shouldn't have houses! To all the people on here that know they can handle an assault weapon, better buy them now because they already have the AWB written and all they'll need to do is send it to Obama for a signature. He will sign it then claim that he did not push for it but since it came to his desk he felt that he should sign it. Now, turning millions of gun-owners into criminals overnight should be interesting as I know many that will not give up their guns. Wonder what Obama wants his own private forces for? We'll see.

Our house was robbed and all the thieves took were three guns. Now I have ppl around my house yelling and banging on my door. I live in an isolated area. So, I had my husband show me how to load the shotgun and shot it. I'm tired of being scared to stay in my own house. It's usually just my kids and I here by ourselves because my husband works the night shift. They may have taken 3 guns but they still left me some and I'm prepared to use them now. No more being afraid to stay in my own house.

Steve, Congress doesn't have the anti-gun majority to do anything regarding gun rights. Democrats, especially in the south must support guns because that is what their constituents want and they want to be re-elected. With the economy in the crapper and two simultaneous wars, you can bet that banning guns will be the least of President-elect Obama's worries. The assault weapons ban was a bipartisan effort and contained a 10 year sundown clause. The Republicans will never support another bill like it. The purpose was to have a 10 year study to see if crime was affected in any way with the ban. The results overwhelmingly showed that the ban had no effect on crime. I should know, I worked for the NRA.

To Ryan: his name is Barack HUSSEIN Obama, and what you don't understand, is in a small business someone like Obama is a scary figure to take office with his tax laws, and for a gun store, his beliefs on fire arms. Gun distributers NATION WIDE are selling out on what liberals call "assault rifles" & just like some of the other comments I have read, guns are protection. Being a single female, I don't go to bed without making sure my gun is loaded. When I lived on 7th ave, i would litterally have to go through my entire house checking each room before I would go to bed, so until our government can control our safety situation, no one has a right to demean our rights are citizens.

Tom you nailed it check and balances. Granted Dems have control of both now. I do not own a gun, however am not against them. I guess its ok to have an age limit on when you can drink beer, but a gun is a another story. My grandfather was an avid hunter and that is a good use i suppose. and if somebody breaks into your house and you have no way to defend yourself it is a good idea. There are good uses and bad uses for a lot of things in life. I do not believe Obama is trying to destroy the constitution. Some regulation is required. I feel that semi-automatic wepons belong with our military. not to protect ourselves or hunt with. Times are getting tough. We need to build confidence with our leaders a build a brighter future for our children. The election hype is over and now action is of upmost importance. Only god knows our future and if you are muslim, christian, buddist, jewish, etc love is the key to life. We need to have faith in our lives. God Bless us all.

To anonymous you must be the troubled one ,have you ever been backed down an alley at 1am buy someone with a knife or been victim to a home invasion,guess not you probably never go out of the house triple dead bolt locks, bars on your windows,alarm system you pay dearly for,i grew up on guns but i don't go out looking for trouble but it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it so don't classify gun owners as stupid we enjoy getting together to shoot and have a good time do you not have any hobbies,guess not,get out have fun ,just remember not everyone is stupid because they have or carry a firearm,now you have a nice day and be carefull,there really is good guys out there with guns

yeah but the only problem is that not only law officers would have them! Thats why they call them criminals...they dont go by the law. I bet when you anti gun people has a robber pointing a gun in your face or at a loved one, you will wish you had a gun! Its like the old song says.." they are tryin to take our guns away and that would be just fine,if you can get them away from the criminals first i will gladly give ya mine"!!!!

We already had a ban on an entire class of weapons (so-called "assault rifles") for a decade, and handguns are illegal in Obama's hometown of Chicago. He's voted for every anti-gun measure he could. His cabinet picks thus far have been anti-gun - not to mention his Vice President. To honestly think he is suddenly going to change his stripes and defend our rights is foolishly naive. And to anyone who thinks otherwise - shouldn't you be selling your guns? They're at a premium right now, and besides, you can buy them back - right?

I THINK WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE AS MANY GUNS AS WE WANT .WE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR ACTIONS WHEN PROVEN GUILTY BY A JURY OF OUR PEERS THATS WHY WE HAVE A SYSTEM OF LAWS .LETS NOT BLAME INOCENT PEOPLE WHO WORK HARD TO LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM AND DON'T WANT SOME CONVICT STEELING IT OR HURTING THEM OR LOVED ONES FOR .THATS WHY WE NEED OUR 2ND AMENDMENT TO STAY.

FIRST OF ALL GUNS ARE NOT GOING TO BE BAN IN THE USA. THIS IS UP TO THE CONGRESS NOT THE PRESIDENT. THIS IS A PLOY BY THE RIGHT WING TO GET WHAT THEY CAN GET. IM AM FOR GUNS BY ALL MEANS, AND IF YOU OUTLAW GUNS ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE THEM, GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. I WILL HAVE MY GUNS UNTIL THEY TEAR MY DEAD FINGERS FROM AROUND THEM. SO QUIT YOUR WHINNING. IT WOULD BE REAL HARD TO DO ANY WORSE THAN WHAT WE HAVE HAD FOR THE LAST EIGHT YEARS. I live on 20th st and 9th ave me and my family was watching tv in the back room when my daughter heard a noise in the living room she is only 3 I went into the living room and a guy was half way in my house he came through the window while we were home yes I reached for my gun he broke into my house in the daytime knowing we were home I didnt shoot but he was scared I may have had to shoot him if he made it all the way into my house if he was bold enough to break in while we was home then he could have very well killed one of us if he made it in our home. he can have anything we have but dont harm my family.was are life in danger yes my gun saved our lives thats why my daughter is having another birthday she will be 4. the same guy broke into a house down the street tied a old lady up beat her up and robbed her he is in jail now but I still think what could of happened if he made it into our house I would have defended myself.my gun saved our life and I take it everywhere I go

To few people realize it will be congress that passes an AWB / Gun Ban, excise taxes,etc the president need not spend his time focusing on these issues, he just takes a second of his time to stroke these into law with his pen.

Further, calling him Hussein in order to demonize our President is offending and unpatriotic. Using this emotionally-binding propoganda to boost sales shows lack of integrity. I am against gun ownership (except for hunting) and believe that only law enforcement should carry guns. However, I understand that it is our second amendment to own guns. Therefore, I support gun ownership. If the second amendment was taken away, then I feel that our other amendments are in danger.
