Water Rescue Challange
Of course that puts pressure on first responders, which is why local emergency workers put their skills to the test this weekend.
The goal in this water rescue competition is saving a fellow firefighter after a swift water rescue. While the scenario is simple the recovery is much more difficult.
Lt. Darin Virag of the Charleston Fire Dept. explains, "We're working together to solve a problem, and without communication, we can't solve a problem."
In this drill, the patient has a pulse, but he is not responsive. After a careful examination, crews are able to carry the victim to solid ground.
"No matter what training you've had or what you've done in the past, you can always learn," said Louie Robinson, the water rescue organizer. "West Virginia has a lot of rescuers that we need to be proud of whether from the Fire, EMS and Police Departments as well have rescue teams."
This is all part of West Virginia’s statewide EMS firefighters challenge, which took place in Hurricane.
