Could the weekend death of a teenager be Huntington’s first homicide of the year? Police and prosecutors are looking hard at a late night, downtown punch fight that ended in tragedy.
He was a good kid finished school and now, 19 year old Jeff Ross is dead.
Police say around 3 am Sunday, Jeff Ross and a friend were shouting at cars waling along Third Avenue, across from Pullman Square. Police say a truck full of young men from Kentucky stopped, got out and a fight started. Police say Jeff Ross took one punch to the face, went down and was taken to the hospital and died a few hours later. The question is did he die from the punch or the fall, or something else.
Detective McMillian said, “It listed it as battery, we need the medical examiners report to determine cause of death and if alcohol or drugs were involved.”
Police call one of the Kentuckians a person of interest.
Jeff Ross’s girlfriend's father says his future son in law was awaiting marriage and a baby girl.
The girlfriend's father says he under stands Jeff was drinking at Saddle Ridge before the 3am incident police say the bar doesn't close until 3:30am and remember, he was 19 West Virginia’s drinking age is 21.

Police say they don't know how or if any nightclub was involved in Jeff Ross’s death. Randy

Police say autopsy results and a prosecutor's decision will determine final criminal charges.
