Buying Used Four Wheelers

Four wheeler accidents have killed three dozen people in West Virginia this year! Do you know what to look for before buying a used four wheeler? Here is some advice to help keep your family safe.

Ryan Atkins is replacing the tires on his buddy's used four wheeler giving it the once over before it's back in service.

Ryan talks about what to look for, "You'll check the brakes when you replace the tires. Anytime you have the wheels off you tend to look at those things and make sure. You know, everyone wants to stop.”

It's state law every year your car gets inspected for possible problems. Not the case with four wheelers. Once it leaves the lot, it's anybody's guess.

Dwayne Maynard says, “The biggest mistake people make is buying a used four wheeler with their heart and not their head.”

Too often, simple maintenance is ignored and problems go undetected.

What are some of the things they should look for just to make sure it is safe?

Dwayne, "Cracked frames, see if handle bars been bent to see if it's been rolled. It could have weakened the weld on anything on it."

Ryan Atkins says, "Check your brake fluid."

A few hours up on a lift can make the all the difference between whether your ride is safe or an accident waiting to happen.
