TUESDAY UPDATE: Following a press conference concerning new locker rooms for the school's basketball program, MU President Dr. Stephen Kopp spoke on the state of the football program.

Kopp told reporters the program is heading in the right direction.

Sunday night story

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum said Mark Snyder will remain head football coach.

In a statement, Marcum said, “To avoid any speculation concerning our football program, Mark Snyder is and will remain our head football coach.”

After Saturday's 38-35 loss to Tulsa, Snyder told WSAZ Sports Director Keith Morehouse that school officials told him "nothing" about next year.

"We're planning on hitting the road recruiting (Sunday)," Snyder said.

In four seasons as Herd head coach, Snyder has a 16-31 record (13-19, C-USA).

Tommy Tubberville, regardless of what the Auburn administration say, was forced to resign yesterday while posting an 85-40 record. He won 68% of his games and he's out of a job. Mark Snyder has won 34% and we're stuck with him. I heard the decision to keep him was Kopp's and his alone. The Board of Governors weren't even consulted. That's probably how the extension came about as well.

Posted by: Chris on Dec 4, 2008 at 09:19 AM
People, wake up. Enough is enough. Snyder needs to go. He received a contract extension before he even had a winning season. Marshall is a joke now in the football arena. Shame should be laid on the people that made the decision to jump to C-USA. The school was not ready and I think Pruitt knew that.

Michael, I have to disagree with you concerning Snyder's time as the OSU defensive coordinator. Even his bio indicates 2004 was the only year he was the DC. 2004 wasn't a good year for the Bucks. They finished 8-4 and gave up 18.2 points per game. Maybe that's why Tressel didn't put up a fight to keep him. From his bio: "Snyder came to Marshall after four years as an assistant coach under Jim Tressel at Ohio State University and was coming off of his first season as the Buckeyes' defensive coordinator."

It seems to me a lot of negativity in Huntington lately, lets pull together and save our city and school. Huntington and Marshall have great potential its up to us to make it happen and negativity is not going to do the trick. C'mon people of Huntington GO HERD !!!!!!!!

Posted by: booger on Dec 3, 2008 at 01:36 PM
Good things about Snyder: Marshall has one of the highest graduating percentages of all colleges in the country. There ARE less police reports about MU players. If you notice, most police reports are about FORMER Herd players. He's a good guy, has heart, and wants to win. Bad things about Snyder: He can't win, recruit, or be a head coach. He's an assistant. If we had him as DC, he'd work out great. I don't want to fire him, I want him as an assistant. That's where he's best. We need to demote Snyder, and bring in a new head coach with experience and a proven record. On another note, at least he's not Bill Stewart. We can at least let Snyder do a press conference without looking like a total moron.

Posted by: EC on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Right direction! Pres. Kopp, what are you smoking? The coach should realize that he hasn't been effective and should take it upon himself to resign. We all know that you cannot recruit good players when you are losing more games than you are winning. Mr. Marcum and Coach Snyder shoud do the right thing and resign.

Posted by: lisa on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:09 AM
people....marshall is just subject to bad coaching. they have terrell edwards. he is gonna take that team to victory. every time. give him the ball. he will make that touchdown. hes proven that. twice. he will be marshalls key to success !!! go #2 we luv u !!!!!!!!

Posted by: Not a Fan on Dec 3, 2008 at 04:14 AM
Hey guys, improvement in the program - yes, no cheating, no playing players for not working, no probation, fewer police reports, graduating players, yet none of this has translated into winning yet, but it will, but only when the Pruitt gang is all gone. Give him a chance!

Posted by: Michael on Dec 3, 2008 at 02:16 AM
And even that being said, all of here following Marshall football for the last decade and a half at least know that outside of a Magical December day in 1992 when a walk-on kicker kicked a national championship winning field goal, Youngstown State, a team with Snyder on staff 1989-1994 i believe, Had Marshall's number. 91, and 93 national champs

Posted by: Michael on Dec 3, 2008 at 02:12 AM
Bill I sorry to disagree with you but Snyder was the Coordinator, he just didnt call the plays, thanks. And please dont think that the playcall is always the Coordinator. Thanks for the history lesson

Posted by: Allen on Dec 2, 2008 at 10:44 PM
Let me be clear,it is Marcum who must go.If Marcum goes the rest will correct itself.

Posted by: Wonderin' on Dec 2, 2008 at 10:31 PM
You can't be a fair weather fan!! Our attitudes stream down the line to others. Why should anyone try if no one believes in them! WE ARE...MARSHALL! PLAY TIL THE WHISTLE BLOWS!

Posted by: Mothman on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:38 PM
Prez Kopp has no objective basis to support this decision. So why is he putting his own future on the line by backing Synder and Marcum in their quest to take the MU football back to the Seventies?Sorry,Iam just asking.

Posted by: Go Herd on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:47 PM
Marshall fans ALWAYS stand behind their school/team no matter what. Next year when things are going well, I know we will hear this same group singing praises of the team. So sad. . .if you are truly a Marshall fan, I will see you next year at the games cheering proudly "We are Marshall". . .if not, go on to the Northern part of the State. . .I am sure they will be glad to have you. . .

Posted by: richalds on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:33 PM
Come on guys give the guy a break. I'm a WVU fan tried and true but i'll root for Marshall. Give the guy a couple more years to get ALL of his players in there with a little experience under their belt and they will be fine. He's been there 4 years. It takes that long to get Pruetts men out and his in. I thought they would can him, but I think we should rally around these young kids. I also think everyone should look out for them over the next 2 or 3 years. They will be tough and back on top.

Posted by: Terry on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:15 PM
I hope the expectation or as he put it, "wish" for a 6 and 6 football season at MU does not also extend to wishing half of the students in class can get a passing grade. It's fair to expect more than this from Kopp, Marcum, and Snyder. While you don't always get what you "wish" for you will often get what you expect from a subordinate. Gee, call me crazy but I think I will "wish" for a new coach and a 12-0 season in 2009.

Posted by: Bill on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:00 PM
When it comes to making excuses Kopp, Marcum, and Snyder wrote the book! What a joke these clowns have become.

Posted by: GOHERD!!! on Dec 2, 2008 at 07:45 PM
As for all of you WVU fans with something to say about MU, the eers aren't exactly tearing it up out there with a 7-4 record and NO Big East title so worry about your team and MU fans will worry about their team!GO HERD!!!

Posted by: sadfan on Dec 2, 2008 at 07:33 PM
Kopp's decision is a very difficult to understand and grasp. Even though Snyder has led our football team to four losing seasons, he says that Snyder's team has improved. You can't fool the fans Mr. President. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. This truly a kopp-out by Marshall's President.

Posted by: Heather on Dec 2, 2008 at 06:11 PM
Well until Huntington can focus on the "town" and not just on expanding Marshall, then the surroudings may not be so unbearable to possible good coaches and players.

Posted by: Blame on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:47 PM
Pruett made this mess by placing MU in this conference prior to retiring. MU needs to reconsider where they are and where they really need to be in the future.

Posted by: (possible) WVU fans! on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:35 PM
Well im actually looking forward to next season! (why you ask?) well its because now i can just focus on tailgating and not worrying about a football game. Its very hard for me to watch Marshall Football now. I used to live and die for them and always, always took pride in being a marshall fan. Now i just change the subject or marshall is overshadowed by WVU conversations. Honestly i have a hard time not watching WVU and i used to HATE THEM. Well like we always say, "there is always next year"!

Posted by: Trace on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:06 PM
Believe what you want to, but give me a break. Snyder has had FOUR YEARS to turn this program around and he hasn't and will probabley never get it back to normal or where they used to be when Pruett was there. I am a diehard fan and I am getting frustrated with loosing seasons at Marshall. I hope for the best. GO HERD!

Posted by: 6-6? on Dec 2, 2008 at 04:04 PM
I can no longer root for a team that's goal is to be 6-6 in the 11th rated conference out of 12 conferences in 1-A. Kopp says we were SO CLOSE TO BEING 6-6. So what. Marshall could have went 6-6 and then go to some crappy bowl and lose and finish 6-7. That's what happened after the Herd lost to Cincy in the Ft. Worth Bowl and nobody was happy about that season. I am going to pull for a team that the coach's goal is to be 12-0...doesn't mean they have to be 12-0. You should want your coach (and administration) to try to win every game, not half of them. Marshall used to play for championships...it now strives for mediocrity in a below average conference. The new slogan that has been used the past four seasons: "Wait until next year"

Posted by: JOSH on Dec 2, 2008 at 02:52 PM
NOBODY SAYS SNYDER DONT LOVE THE HERD,THE FACT IS HE CANT COACH.IF YOUR A TRUE MARSHALL FAN YOU WILL SEE TO IT THAT HE IS LET GO.ITS YOUR TICKET MONEY THAT HEPLS PAY HIM.WISH YOU GUYS LUCK.

Posted by: Bill on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:51 PM
Snyder was not the defensive coordinator when OSU won the National Championship. Do some research and you'll find the defensive coordinator for OSU at the time was Mark Dantonio, current head coach at Michigan State.

Posted by: Herd Fan #1 on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Kopp is a tool.....this guy is here for academics and nothing more. As long as a coach runs the program with no distractions for him to have to deal with then he is happy. Snyder lost 7 of 8 games...yes SNYDER, not the players. He is the leader...take responsibility for the losses over the last 4 years and do the right thing. RESIGN. We are the laughing stock of college football right now...its no wonder that fellow CUSA schools laugh at our administration. QUIT LIVING IN THE PAST>>>>PLAN FOR THE FUTURE. NOT WITH MARK SNYDER

Posted by: Fire Snyder on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Kopp just showed again that he is clueless about football. He cites a uninformed 1-11 prediction by SI and says that he sees progress. Even with a much easier schedule next season I don't see more than 4 wins again. This is just like the state to pay the lowest bidder for shoddy work.

Posted by: Luv MU on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:37 PM
THANK YOU Michael!! I think at this point if the Good Lord Himself were coach they would want His head on a platter as well. There is just no pleasing some people! Coach Snyder, coaching staff, players...keep your heads up and be proud of who you are...The Marshall Thundering Herd!! GO HERD!!!

I HAVE NEVER BEEN A MARSHALL FAN,BUT THE FANS DONT DESERVE TO BE HUMILIATED EVERY WEEK BY POOR COACHING. EVERY DAY THEY WAIT TO FIRE SNYDER IS ANOTHER DAY WAITING FOR THINGS TO GET BETTER.BUT IF YOU WAIT ANOTHER YEAR RICH ROD WILL BE AVAILABLE MICHIGAN WILL LET HIM GO.

Being the Defensive Coordinator at a Big 10 school, that goes undefeated and wins a National Championship? your exactally right, thats not doin much at all for the school. Im really tired of people not knowing anything posting on here. Look Snyder has 3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS people, dont sit there and kid yourself that he doesnt know how to win. and to Pffft, how can u say he destoryed us? we were already in trouble before he got here. Why do you think Houston retracted there 5 year 57million doller contract to Pruett. Thats right, he stayed here because he loved Marshall and Huntington that much. Go Play somewhere people. If you dont want you season tickets, or to watch them play, fine. Take yourself up to the Northern part of the state and eat, sleep n breath WVU like the rest of em. WE Are Marshall..and We dont need ya. Also Synder annual salary is somewhere in the 400,000 range. We could but it out if we wanted. GO HERD

It wasn't a mistake to move into Conf-USA. It WAS a mistake not to commit to doing what it takes to compete at that level.

Well, looks like I'll be boycotting our football games my Senior year too. Snyder took a perenniel top 25 team and ran them into the ground. He NEEDS to go.

Posted by: Jason on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:14 PM
For those of you who keep saying Snyder was on the "staff" of the national Championship team... Exactly, he was on the staff.. but so was the waterboy and team doctor. Snyder wasn't involved in any major coaching decisions @ OSU, and probably got the job of just being on "staff" b/c of who he knew.. not what he was able to do. Not to mention the fact that the BCS basically tries to hand OSU a national championship every single year, b/c they over-hype them everytime they beat a crummy team on their schedule and make excuses whenever they lose to decent teams.. which is the exact reason why everytime they play in the champ.. they get ran hard!

Posted by: Jason on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Snyder & staff all need to be replaced! How man games have we seen him and his staff throw away from terrible play calling and bad coaching? Not to mention the fact that he is the weakest recruiter ever... The fact that Huntington is now a town that no1 wants to live in anymore is part of the issue, but it's still no excuse when getting paid millions to just basically exist.. b/c thats all he is doing is just existing without production. Next years record will be the same if not worse.

Posted by: Ron on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Hmmmm. Do Marshall fans only attend games when the team is winning championships? Does "We Are Marshall" only apply to winning teams? I think everyone should support the TEAM and let the coaches and players worry about wins and losses. Don't be hypocrites if you are the MU fans you SAY you are! Many of these posts make you sound like fair weather front-runners.

Thank You to the people that took the time to show your support of my opinions. Marshall's move to Conference USA was the correct move, it just happend 3 years too late. However I doubt that we would have been able to avoid the sanctions that have handcuffed the Snyder oversight of the program. Marcum's decision to play copy cat and sign a exclusive TV contract with CSTV (now CBS College Sports) was a untimely horrible blow to the financing of an office, even coming off of Lance West's Reign as AD (He was moved to head up the Funraising Department) which tells you what he helped do for the program. Marcum is just past his time. We need new blood to be the Head of the entire Athletic Department. We have beautiful facilities for all our sports and should have no trouble getting any athlete to play any sport at MU. The way the community wraps its arms around the successful ones and are so willing to help as well?! Good Luck In '09 Mark, You got at least this Herd Fan Behind You!!!

Maybe we can set a C-USA record for the number of timeouts we take to the locker room at half time.

If Snyder has a two seater car Marcum and the worthless I wont even call him a coach should both drive off in the sunset.I stopped paying to see the Herd get beat I will not renew my season tickets until Synder gone.

Folks, all I can say is that I understand your anger and frustration. I and numerous fans on this side of the river wanted to help load the moving vans for Rich Brooks and Mitch Barnhart no too long ago. While UK still isn't where it needs to be in football, at least it is a bit more tolerable than it has been in recent years. HOPEFULLY you folks at MARSHALL can see something similar in a reasonable amount of time! Hang in there........

Posted by: Too Bad on Dec 1, 2008 at 06:28 PM
I think it's time for Snyder to go. He's had enough time to bring the program around. If it were any other school he would already have been show the door.

OUR NEW MOTTO: WE ARE...going to go ahead and ride this thing out till the wheels fall off and it takes a decade to dig ourselves out and our stadium makes U.A.B's crowd look like a sell out at the Joan.

Posted by: Ed on Dec 1, 2008 at 04:42 PM
To the WVU fan "WE ARE NOT THAT HARD UP TO RESORT TO TRADING MARSHALL FOR WVU". I agree with one of the viewers, we do need a new Athlete Director and a new high powered offensive scheme in order to get back on track next year. Send the kicker to a camp for the winter, spring and summer maybe he will be ready next year. Mark Snyder needs figure out that the Ohio State thing is not working. Come next fall we will all be ready for a new season hopefully of more wins than losses.

Posted by: JH on Dec 1, 2008 at 04:31 PM
The move to Conference USA was and always will be a good decision. Tom at 7:51 said that we were a mid-major trying to compete with majors... well I have news for you C-USA is a mid-major conference and we were 3 field goals away from winning the division. I know ifs and buts, but we did either compete or beat the best competition C-USA has to offer and should be one of the favorites coming into next year. This year is over we lost some games we should have won, but we return an excellent team who is a year more experienced and has a very bright future. Snyder deserves one more year to see what he can do with a returning "core" of talented players before he is given the boot.

Posted by: UHERDME on Dec 1, 2008 at 03:41 PM
Michael, congrats! finally someone makes a post that was well thought out and makes good since. All these so called fans that say they will not renew their their season tickets will be trying their best next year to get a ticket to the CUSA champ game and bowl. And to my good friend Daryl, I see you have not crawled back under your rock yet up in Morontown. I can't wait for Beer Belly Bob to get introduced to Donnieball next month, it should be fun.

To avoid any speculation, I will not be renewing my 8 season tickets next year since Snyder is staying. Just so you don't think I am a fair-weather fan, I have attended 95% of the Herd home games since 1969. Snyder has run the Herd program into the ground, and Kopp and Marcum need to be held accountable also.

Posted by: CLAUDE on Dec 1, 2008 at 02:03 PM
True it was a mistake to go to bigger conference. Marshall should have stayed in the MAC. How many more years of losing seasons does it take, or will it take for Marshall to realize they need to cut their loses with Snyder, and be done with him, and get back in the MAC. Marshall went from the pride of the MAC, and one of the winningest programs to a losing program. Snyder has shown that he can not win as a coach, now its time to be done with him, and find someone that can do what others did, rebuild it, and show something for their money.

Posted by: Wilson on Dec 1, 2008 at 01:46 PM
I am embarrassed by all the comments below except by the one from Michael. Snyder came in with 1 day of spring practice left 4 years ago. That means he has had 3 recruiting classes, two under probation. You need 3 things to win, talent, coaching, support from the fans. We are improving each year on #1, we have #2 and from the looks of these comments, #3 is sadly lacking. This vote of confidence prevents the “pipeline” of recruits from rupturing. We have 15 starters back, a senior class of 20. This is what people mean when they say we are making progress. Don’t want your season tickets? There are those who will buy them and they will have the first shot at the bowl tickets when they become available.

I think it was a mistake to go to the bigger conference.

Posted by: Dave on Dec 1, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Great Job Coach!. You peolple need to open your eyes and see what shape the program was in when Coach Snyder was hired. It was in danger of probation because of cheating...but yet you bow at Coach Pruett's feet. He left the program high and dry, why do you think he left? Coach was hired one day before spring ball and this is just his second full recruiting class. Plus you guys said the MAC was good enough for you....well the conference you in is over your head.

you think maybe the jump up in conference might have had some effect on marshalls losses. oruett got out while the gettin was good!

Posted by: Luv MU on Dec 1, 2008 at 12:40 PM
All you with negative comments I think you should be the coach. We all know that those who say comments such as these would be much better coaches than anyone else on the face of this earth. All the right answers, plays, coaching staff! Do you really think the players enjoy losing? Do you really think Coach Snyder enjoys this. He loves this school and the players. Coach Pruett got out just as he got us into to the new conference..why? I wonder! He wanted to go out on a winning note and be known as a winning coach and not stay when things were really going to get tuff! Coach Snyder must know a little about something he was on the coaching staff of a National Championship team! A new coach, a new conference, a new staff, new players it takes time to adjust and get things in order. The players are some of the greatest young men who face the same things on a daily basis as all of us so give them a break. Things will look up for the HERD so give them a chance-try encouraging not discouraging

My family and I are walk-up ticket buyers to most home games because of the uncertainties of my job. We love Marshall and Huntington and regretfully say our $300-$400 we spend on motels and food each home game will not be spent next year or as long as Snyder and Marcum are destroying what some have given their lives for. Can't we get Lee Moon and Jim Donnan back?

Marshall and WVU have something in common. Both have ADs that need to go and both have assistant football coaches pretending to be the head football coach. It pains me as a WVU fan and it pains my wife as a Marshall fan.

Posted by: Michael on Dec 1, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Wow Never call Pruett a recruiting genius. Name someone he brought to this program other than D Watts and Josh Davis. Pennington, Leftwich, Champman, Moss, Beckett. I could go on. The entire 99 senior class actually. Brought in by Mickey Matthews, Kevin Kelly, and Jim Donnan. Notice Bobbby Pruett had to goto his old buddy Al Groh at UVA to get any job at all? Look I played college football, recruiting and the abaility to recruit is everything. We lost 5 scholorships a year over 5 years. thats 25 out of a possible 85 people over the span. a starting offence and defense, plus 2 kickers, and a holder. just to give the Idea of what was lost. Snyder IS taking us in the right direction. But when a program is a low as we were. it is a slow and painful process to get out. We now have, and its take off time. Marcum is the one that should go. Bring in a New AD and let him evaluate Snyder for a year, make it a year by year thing. But replacing both would be Marshall take 5 steps back. Fire Marc

Posted by: sally on Dec 1, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Marshall can't afford to buy out Snyder's contract. (hes not going to quit) A new AD and a new high powered offensive scheme are required and maybe Snyder can salvage it after all.

That's Marshall for you. They will gladly cash my tuition check, but they're too lazy to do anything that will better the university and community. Maybe if enough people let go of their season tickets and stop going to games they'll do something. Then again, they'd still probably be too lazy and just close down the football team. Marshall University is becoming an embarrassment VERY quickly!

Posted by: Pam on Dec 1, 2008 at 11:02 AM
This does not surprise me. I would like to know just how bad Marshall has to get before they get another coach?

Posted by: Jason on Dec 1, 2008 at 10:28 AM
I will not be buying season tickets next year.

Posted by: glad on Dec 1, 2008 at 10:28 AM
im glad he's staying. it takes more than 3-4 years to rebuild a football program. hiring another NEW coach now would NOT i repeat NOT be the answer. WTG n Good luck HERD and coach snyder.

Posted by: B-licious on Dec 1, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Well, let's hope something has been learned from this past season. We had a few good games but for the most part I felt they just weren't trying hard enough.

Chuck Landon is right on again. Read the link below. http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x59589459/Marshalls-statement-is-endorsement-of-losing-way

Posted by: Dave on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:55 AM
Well, at least I know I'm saving my season ticket money again. Didn't renew em' this year and as long as Snyder is there, won't renew them at all. Marshall is not the exciting place it once was. Instead of getting "pumped and excited" about upcoming games - I only go if a ticket is free and there is absolutely nothing else to do. Those of you that want to sit in the half full stadium just to say, "I was there in the down times" - have at it. There comes a time when having a bit of commen sense comes in to play.

Posted by: Alex on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:38 AM
Last year at the call-in show, Snyder said taht this would be the year because all of his recruits would be here. This past Tuesday at the call-in show, Snyder said it was a five year plan...seriously? Next year it will be a six year plan and so on and so on...this is a great Marshall football program that has made poor decisions, ruining the integrity of the once proud program. How long do we have to wait? And why is it that people got kicked out of the game for having signs saying get a new coach at the game? Good call Marcum.

Posted by: MATT on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:31 AM
WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, MARSHALL DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY OUT HIS CONTRACT! THIS IS WHY MARSHALL NEEDS TO STEP DOWN OUT OF THE C USA. THEY DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO COMPETE LIKE THESE BIG SCHOOLS DO. ANY BIG SCHOOL WOULD HAVE FIRED HIM LAST YEAR!

Posted by: Jack on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:17 AM
it just follows what the rest of huntington does...keep on doing what you've always done even if it's destructive and defeatist! keep the same old bunch in power or in coaching positions as it may be same old, same old that's why Huntington is a loser now and doing stupid things like this is why Marshall too is NOW a loser

Posted by: Cindy on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I am (or was) a MU fan, I personally can not stand to watch this idiot anymore. The athletes have talent and work hard. The Coach and his staff is the problem.. MU you deserve whatever happens, poor ticket sales and decline in money to your university.

Posted by: Herd Fan on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:47 AM
Mark Snyder is a really nice man..very friendly and outgoing but as a coach NOT!!! Even if the Off coach is calling in bad plays it's Snyder that needs to step up and say no..Good Luck Seniors and sorry to the players for next year and oh yes CAN CANN!!

Posted by: Daryl on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:45 AM
Ah, now you blundering herd fans, you can't win them all, 4-8 was better than last year and with a little over 4k in the stands on senior day, way to go showing your support for the herd!

Posted by: go herd on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:38 AM
pruett shorthanded the program when he handed it to snyder. we lost scholarships because of violations. look at other bigger programs that were stripped of scholarships and you'll see a trend. lack of scholarship = losing/rebuilding programs (look at miami hurricanes). im all for giving people a chance but i too want snyder gone if he doesnt produce a .500 or better team next year! phil fulmer could be looking for a job, he's had alot of success at tennessee w/ the exception of this year. i have to agree w/ posts here that say marcum needs to go too.

Posted by: Chris on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:38 AM
Well MU can find someone else to buy my season tickets next year. I have had enough of Mark Snyder!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:36 AM
Here we go again. A AD with no clue, a coach saying the program is heading in the right direction. Even the forty thousand dollar millionairs that like coach snyder are getting back to reality. Marcum & Snyder both need to go.

Posted by: Keith on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Its pretty obvious that Snyder doesnt have the talent to continue coaching at Marshall. If I played there and the program didnt turn around, Id transfer. It is an embarassment to the school, the town, and all of the supporters of Marshall, and we need to start a coaching search ASAP. 3 years is as long as a coach should need to turn things around. Hit the bricks, Snyder and lets get on with the business of football.

Posted by: MIKE on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:20 AM
WHEN MARCUM AND SNYDER ARE AT DINNER I HOPE THEY YUK IT UP AND RELEISH THE FACT THAT WE HAD ALL THE TALENT BUT NO LEADERSHIP THIS MUST TRICKLE DOWN FROM THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT DOWN I PLAYED FOR THE HERD IN THE 70S AND MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE KIDS. ONCE AGAIN I THINK POLITICS ARE BEING PLAYED OUT AT MU YOU PLAYERS KEEP YOUR HEADS UP AND MAYBE SNYDER WILL REALIZE HES THE ONE WHO NEEDS MORE EXPERANCE.LEADSHIP AND MOTIVATION COMES FROM THE HEART I DONY GET THIS FROM SNYDER.

Posted by: Chris on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:17 AM
Mr Marcum needs to be fired along with Snyder! The program is not getting any better. Me and my wife will NOT buy season tickets next year as we have for the past 4 years!

Posted by: Tom on Dec 1, 2008 at 07:51 AM
Marshall is "used to winning?!" Maybe for a decade or so. Here's a reality check, from 1946-1990 Marshall had 10 winning seasons, that's it. Sure, the 90s were great when Marshall was D1-AA and in the MAC. That's where they belong. Snyder is a fine coach, he's won a National Championship with the big boys. The move to C-USA looked good on paper but was a bad move financially and for competition. Marshall is a "mid-major" University with a "mid-major" budget and for the most part, "mid-major" athletes trying to compete at the "major" college level. It's going to be an uphill battle regardless of the coach regardless of the sport. That's just the reality of it.

Posted by: Donald on Dec 1, 2008 at 07:31 AM
Snyder has yet to have a winning season and we still keep him as the head coach. If they won't get rid of snyder, then maybe they should look at getting rid of Marcum.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 1, 2008 at 07:17 AM
I don't understand why everyone is on the coach. All he can do is teach, and train. It's up to the students to take it to the field. And besides it's you all are the ones that wanted to go to a bigger conference.

Posted by: Sherry on Dec 1, 2008 at 07:05 AM
Why would they ever vote to keep Synder? He has NOT been good for Marshall! I agree with the other posts that state he should resign. He was a poor coaching assistant and even worse as a head coach. Come on Marshall do what is right for the school and the community. Just know that I will always be a Marshall Herd fan no matter what. I support the players just not their coach. GO AWAY SNYDER!!!

Posted by: JH on Dec 1, 2008 at 06:38 AM
I agree with this decision... next year is his make or break year. We are only one year removed from probation and with the talent returning next season it would be a disappointment to win less than 8 games. We showed a lot of promise this season, were on the wrong side of three games that could have gone either way, and just as easily could have gone 7-5. If he doesn't produce next year it is time for a change, but I for one saw a great improvement over last year and would like to see if that improvement continues.

Posted by: jeremy on Dec 1, 2008 at 05:51 AM
well, at least we still have outstanding high school teams in the area. it looks now like it could be a long time until we have a college team.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 1, 2008 at 04:26 AM
Maybe we will go 5and 7 next year.

Posted by: me on Dec 1, 2008 at 04:07 AM
the blundering terd needs a new coach. they haven't had a winning season since the mac.

Posted by: Brittany on Dec 1, 2008 at 02:27 AM
I'm not sure what our poor program needs, but something has to be done! The spark just wasn't there! It was sad for our seniors! They worked really hard! I guess there is always next year. Isn't that our motto anyway? lol

Posted by: Brent on Dec 1, 2008 at 02:07 AM
Bobby Pruett, correctly spelled, was a recruiting genius and has all the wins to prove it. Snyder makes too many bad decisions and needs a wake up call to bring him back to reality. I say boot Snyder and put in Rick Minter as head coach. He's great at what he does and it wouldn't require a lot of restructuring. Terrible decision to keep Snyder.

Posted by: mo on Dec 1, 2008 at 01:49 AM
Why do the players, coaches, and radio announcers such as woody woodrum say over and over again that the program is heading in the right direction? Obviously, we have not been winning and when you are not winning there is nothing else to say. its time to wake up to the reality of things. A winning program would have already made some changes. What do you think other non bcs schools such as hawaii, boise state, nevada, fresno st, tcu, ...just to name a few, would do in the same situation?

Posted by: Michael on Dec 1, 2008 at 01:11 AM
Well Im glad the President got this one right actually. Look even if it is time to start cleaning house (and it is) the head coach is not where u start. Start at the top. Snyder came here horribly short handed because Bobby Pruitt could not recurit, period and had to cheat to get athletes. Our program is one year removed from probation and is not the laughing stock of college football. I Miss Mickey Matthews, Kevin Kelly and Jim Donnan. DONNAN FOR AD!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 1, 2008 at 01:11 AM
jump on the wagon with 1/2 the rest of the country and fire the coach that isnt getting you wins!! Come on Marshall it gets old tailgating for loses!! your gonna start losing fans before long

Posted by: Laura on Dec 1, 2008 at 12:01 AM
"Rebuilding" takes a little time, but c'mon Marshall! We the students are tired of being an embarrassment and laughed off the field every week. The LEAST you could do is get us semi-decent coach. We want to content for a bowl game other than the Toilet Bowl every year. This is a joke, a VERY BAD move, and quite frankly, after four BADLY losing season, I WANT A REFUND OF MY TUITION MONEY YOU'VE BEEN PAYING SNYDER!!!!!!!!!!

Lets Lift our glasses to another "Loseing Year"

Posted by: JH on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Marcum should be fired as well. Good luck selling tickets next year!

Posted by: J Smith on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Wow! once again we are looking down on 4 losing seasons and another to come. How can you take a team that was the winningest college football team in the 90's to the one of the worst programs in the 2000's. Unexcuseable! Many blamed Pruett, others' said youth? But honestly it comes down to two different facotrs: Zero Discipline and very bad coaching. Mr. Snyder has replaced staff, rearranged lineups but yet, no result....maybe, just maybe he is the problem and apparently Mr. Marcum can be considered a factor also. Season tickets? not next year or the following as long as we are funding losing! You can't make money, if you are just willing to throw it into the wind! A comment for you Snyder, if you are a man of integrity, you know in your heart you don't have it, step down and truly let the program go in the right direction...Plenty of good coaches on the market this offseason, don't lose out on that too Marshall! Get with it! And remember we use to play for championships!

Posted by: Jim tired of LOSING on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Its time for Marcum and Snyder BOTH to go. They have both had their chance and we need to move on to (HOPEFULLY) better things.

Posted by: annonymous on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:05 PM
four years is long enough! I can understand giving someone three to get the team going but four is history

Posted by: Phil on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:04 PM
good job.........keep losing for ole Philip

Posted by: MU_Alumni on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Bad move. They need to recruit a new coach...not new players. The team is making the same mistakes that they made last year..... BAD COACHING!!!! Disgrace to anyone that ever went to Marshall. I actually gave away my season tickets this year....and now that Snyder is going to be coach next year....not sure that I will even purchase any.

Posted by: Mark on Nov 30, 2008 at 11:00 PM
What a mistake. He is not the answer for us.

Posted by: Megan on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Posted by: herd4life on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:08 PM
NOOOOOOOO!!!! Snyder do the right thing and resign!!

Posted by: Gary on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Finally something happening at MU that the city of Huntington and the state of WV can be proud of!

Posted by: Allen on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:53 PM
Maybe Marcum and Snyder will both retire next year and we can get back to business.

Posted by: Jay on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:52 PM
Wow...Keeping Coach Snyder I Understand that He is LOVED by the Players but We Are ...Spoiled We are used to winning and Coach Snyder hasnt givin us that lets look at his Record, stats dont lie 16-31 overall (13-19, C-USA). ENOUGH SAID

Posted by: Herd fan no more on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:33 PM
just think...last week, we thought the "new" marco was our WORST problem!!! arrrggggh! say it ain't so!

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:32 PM
WE NEED A NEW COACH!!! and a new athletic director...!!!! BOTH OF YOU HIT THE ROAD SUNDAY!!!

Posted by: Why???? on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:32 PM
WHY???? (is he remaining)????

Posted by: D on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:32 PM
Miami of Ohio's coach just "resigned" with a better record than Snyder in four years. We got to get that fixed.

Posted by: Mark Snyder is terrible on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:30 PM
I am losing faith in the herd because of Mark Snyder. We come from winningest team in the 90's to cant win 5 games in a season? Mark Snyder is a disgrace to Marshall University and the city of Huntington as a whole. It is easy to see that he is affecting crowd participation, as we saw a record low crowd on Saturday. Is fall break to blame? I think not.

Posted by: john on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:26 PM
im sorry, but i miss bobby pruitt

Posted by: Kyle on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:23 PM
He should have stayed at Ohio State. Being an assistant is what he needs to be. Head Coach, no way! I am in no way a Marshall fan but I want to see the two local teams UK and Marshall do great things. At least my team is always a contender (Ohio State) but anyways for the good of MU he needs to step down!!! Please Mark, step down! MU was a average to above average team without you, then you come in and destroy them. LEAVE!

Posted by: EC on Nov 30, 2008 at 08:52 PM
I can remember when there weren't any fans at the old stadium. Marshall needs to clean house starting with Bob Marcum. Marshall cannot continue on losing games and expect the fans to keep packing the stadium. Mr. President, no one keeps supporting losers.

Posted by: Fan on Nov 30, 2008 at 07:57 PM
Well here we go again. Thankfully its Basketball Season. This is a mistake.
