Parents... Raise your kids with enough sense not to be drug addicts!!!

Posted by: jim on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:40 PM
it's not hard to tell who is doing the selling. they don't work and drive better cars and wear nicer clothes than i do. And if or when they get caught, all they get is a slap on the wrist. If these young men are coming here from detroit its not because they can 100.00 a week.this is big money deals. My guess is these punks was raised selling and will die selling.

The drug problem is fixable. But everyone has to get on board. When people are caught with drugs, whether buying or selling, make it tough. Minimum penalty should be a stiff fine, loose driver's license, rehab and probation for a year. During this year they must work at a legitamate job or show proof they are seriously seeking a real job, and house arrest. Break any part of the deal and go to prison, for a minimum of five years. No P

Well u all talk a good job but u may as well give it up because u will never take back ur streets back sittin in front of the computer complaining about the city and debating which town is better. You have to get involved and work a little go to city meetings and dont harp if someone mentions raising ur taxes to help.U cant expect to have all the frills at no extra cost. These dealers know there is no punishment here and no programs to deter the drug addicts so they see this as easy pickins and they wont just leave as long as there is a demand for their goods so until something comes up to give the addicts hope and to keep the kids busy so they dont fall prey u will never win. There needs to be a real rehab program to get these addicts off the drugs for good and in the long run it will be cheaper than locking them up or losing ur neighborhoods.just think if it gets much worse u couldnt even give ur houses away so if it cost a little wouldnt it be worth it

It seems to me that everyone likes to point their fingers at the HPD for Huntington’s drug problems. It is not their fault and here is why. First put yourself into the shoes of a drug dealer. You are attracted to areas that you can make large profits and have lower peanitalities, if caught. Lets break the two variables down. It is not the HPD’s job to form laws that make this area less attractive for drug dealers, and it is also not their job to educate the public and provide innervention to stop drug use from happing in the first place. The HPD recieves blame bucause drug activites occur maybe we shold be focusing on law making, education, and innervention to thoes that abuse drugs and not just blame the police.

We're sick & tired of NONE of us being safe no matter where we are in Huntington and surrounding area and we want them OUT of here & back to Detroit. If they go back in a box, then that's THEIR choice. If you do crimes, you risk being shot killed. INNOCENT people are at risk & we don't ASK for it because WE aren't breaking the laws, INNOCENT people coming & going from the clubs and bars are being shot etc too because they get caught up in these thugs little gun games

Posted by: KB...Post #2 on Dec 4, 2008 at 12:13 PM
What about all the people who get shot, stabbed killed because these thugs need MONEY to buy drugs or the sellers take out revenge or whatever on people who don't pay them for their drugs and innocent people get caught up in it INNOCENT people in these neighborhoods are even afraid to put their garbage out or sit on their porches, look out their windows etc. WHY? Because they'll see drug deals going down & the little "choir boys" from Detroit will kill THEM because they accidently saw them selling drugs! OR the innocent folks can't put their kids on school buses for drive by shootings or drug busts going on! I have compassion for innocent people and kids who get HOOKED on drugs because often they get hooked b/c these big dealers give them some to get them hooked the first time OR someone slips them some & they get hooked AND some of them who voluntarily try drugs & get hooked. theres programs to get them OFF the drugs so they need to go there if they truly want off them. I feel empathy and compassion for the PARENTS of this boy who was killed & the others because they can't help what their kids do and they are their kids what about feeling sorry for and having compassion/empathy for the parents, spouses, children etc of all the VICTIMS of these little gansta boys who kill with guns, knives and drugs or kids on drugs they sell which kill

Posted by: KB... post #1 on Dec 4, 2008 at 12:06 PM
My post is so long its going to take two messages, sorry WSAZ but it needs to be said heres a thought for all of you who feel SORRY for these little thugs especially the ones from out-of-town who have taken over our City and come here from Detroit.. If you don't like your ilk being shot/killed, then take them, your drugs and choir boy, boy-scout, law-abiding little selves - yeah right save it for someone else who doesn't know what you all are & GO BACK TO DETROIT! Good riddance to all of you Complainers, "advisors & know it all/compassionate" people who live out-of-town why dont YOU mind your business wherever you live NOW & stop "advising" us back here and feeling sorry for these thugs! They sure don't feel any compassion or empathy for THEIR victims and believe me, there are PLENTY All the kids from here & at MU they sell drugs to - how about all the bad herion they were flooding the streets with back in the spring and summer which KILLED so many

To Anonymous Dec 3 9:48 AM what makes you think Kim Wolfe is going to clean this up? He was on the police force for over 20 years,Sheriff for the last 8 years when all this drug activity has prosperd on his watch, and he is bought and paid for by Marshall Reynolds who gave him a house to live in city limits and paid for all the signs with him on a horse.

We have a US Marshals office and an FBI office within blocks of each other in downtown Huntington. Umm... A little help please? I don't want either organization to dedicate all of their time to cleaning up Huntington, I understand that isn't their job. Maybe though, we could possibly use their help in organizing a task force to eliminate these types of problems. Huntington could also hire an officer experienced in these types of situations from a larger city, say, Detroit. Ohio, Michigan & West Virginia need to come together and solve this problem. We know where it's coming from, we know where it passes through, and we know where it ends up. Organize together and solve a problem that affects us all.

Posted by: Hummm on Dec 4, 2008 at 09:51 AM
I was raised on 8th Avenue. Back then, we didn't have these issues. Yes, there were drugs, but people were so secretive about their doings. I just graduated Marshall this past spring and was never scared to walk around campus. The only thing you had to worry about on campus was the lack of parking and stupid people believing that all of the parking spaces on any particular lot was THEIR personal property. Times are getting rough and will continue to do so, especially considering the potential economical crisis we are facing. Too many people were raised with the understanding that they are owed. I realize that once you raise a child and send them off into this big world, you have no control over their actions, however, I believe that some building blocks were omitted in their child rearing days. I am not blaming anyone but the criminals themselves, the time that they are paying for their bad actions is obviously not enough to make them sorry for their crimes. It is sad times we live in.

This kind of things makes me so mad! My daughter's father is from Detroit, born and raised, and as lived in Huntington for almost 6 years...never been arrested for drugs, never shot anybody, and minds his own business. I hate the way the rest of these knuckleheads are making Huntington a wild place to live. I agree with the person who said HPD needs to be more worried about the crack, pills and herion going around than this pot. I honestly don't think these people are killing each other over some pot. And to the person thanking "huntington" for taking this young man's life (who was a nice young man), I think Detroit did it this time. It's called "the streets". That's what happens. I just hope whoever did this is gone or something because I do not have time to be watching out for flying bullets because HPD doesn't do what they get paid to do.....

Aparently "tired of it.." and others like him don't understand or appreciate the laws in the State of WV. The police dept can't just walk up to any house b/c it looks like it "might" be a drug house. Nor can they just stop random people on the street b/c they look like they "might" have a gun. The laws in this state protect all people and require police agencies to have what is called Probable Cause...ie. a reason to go in/stop. Get real and get a grip...your thoughts are unrealistic.

I was driving dropping off my fiance at work one morning. I was driving up 20th street...saw a drug deal going on right behind me. I was looking in my rearview mirror and saw it happening. Guess what? HPD was right behind them....hmmmm I am able to see this drug deal, and realize what's going on. The cops that were behind the drugies couldnt..........?????? Not everyone from out of town is into drugs. My fiance is from Michigan, and he works. A good job, he has been here for over 6 years. There's a lot of people here from WV that doesnt want to work or do anything with their life. Oh, and the cop who was behind the drug deal...followed me half way home...I pay my taxes, and abide the law. What was that about?

Posted by: Larry on Dec 4, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Years back when my kids were small, I went in the restroom at the playground section of the park and there was a gentleman with crack rocks in his hand selling to another gentleman. I thought I was a dead man. I used the rest room and walked out. I couldnt call the police because I had no phone. I guess it was an area that the police would not see. I stay out of Htown as much as possible.

Posted by: Bob on Dec 4, 2008 at 08:37 AM
Hey Karla, I live in a poor area 10 miles from Huntington. I will not name the area but we have not had a murder in years. If poverty is causing all the problems, why not in my town? The answer: We have no Detroit thugs running around our town and I will look for a new town as soon as it happens. If it walks like a duck, quack's like a duck......

Posted by: Bob on Dec 4, 2008 at 08:31 AM
Hey Micheal, I would bet it is turf wars not someone standing up the the thugs.

Posted by: Helm on Dec 4, 2008 at 08:27 AM
Okay, so the violent crime is on the rise. No one can disagree with that, it's factual. People still need to understand that we're way better off than most places. It's still a big deal when someone gets shot in Huntington. There are plenty of cities that someone getting shot rarely even gets news coverage. We're so used to having no problems locally, that when we do have some, they seem much bigger than they are. I'm not downplaying the fact that a murder in our city is a huge problem, because it is. I'm simply defending the fact that you don't have to "put your vest on" when you come into town from Wayne, as someone previously posted. It is true that a majority of these crimes do occur to people who put themselves in harms way. An occasional innocent person is going to get hurt too, which is a factor we need to work to erase. As I posted yesterday, Huntington needs to spend the money on some special task forces. The problems start with drugs, stop them, help us.

Posted by: concerned citizen on Dec 4, 2008 at 05:49 AM
to darryl: FYI, there a lot of upstanding citizens living in this area and we don't appreciate or agree with your ridiculous comment. people are afraid to live their lives or leave their homes for fear that someone will break in and take what they've worked hard for, including their homes. this area is almost leveled now and people need some place to live. where do you live? wake up, alice, there is no wonderland anymore.

Posted by: tired of it.. on Dec 4, 2008 at 05:32 AM
I have lived in Huntington all my life as well and withing the last 20 to 25 yrs the crime as tripled and personally I don't think HPD is doing their job. Like one person said on here, it doesn't take much to spot a drug house..Just check out those apts. off of 28th str. That could be a start, bulldoze them and put houses up..And as far as having something to do in this town I would like to know what it is other than going to a bar. No real jobs unless you like telemarketing or bill collecting.. Detroit can keep their trash, we don't want it...I want the old Huntington back..HPD start cracking down on these low income housing places, that should stop alot of the drugs...

Posted by: Maddi on Dec 4, 2008 at 02:56 AM
Yes Huntington is a bad place and has a lot of drug problems. Yes the HPD need to do more to get the drugs off the street. Yes the Judges need to do more to keep the drug dealers in prison. But also you need to think and complain about the other states police for not taking care of the drug problems there. If the other states would do something about their drug problem then maybe Huntington or any other area's wouldn't have such a problem. Don't blame it all on the HPD they can only do so much. Detroit, Michigan, Columbus, Cincinnati, Huntington, and Florida the police need to crack down really hard to fight against drugs so they can keep it off the street. And keep innocent people from dieing.

Posted by: Michael on Dec 4, 2008 at 02:13 AM
I hate to say it, but im glad someone from huntington stood up to the dealers from detriot trying to take our city over. Drugs are wrong and do kill people. but before the Detroit influx became as bad as it is now huntington was not that bad. it was still safe. we need to defend our city!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Unfortunatly, I'm an ex-Detroit area person...but I left in 1991 because of how bad it was and we purchased a small farm in Ohio. When hubby had a bad heart attack we moved to Huntington to be near the VA Hospital. Less than 2 years later, we lost a fortune and moved to rural Boyd County. The block we lived on in Huntington wasn't bad...but all around us it was unreal. I'm familiar with the Inkster area of Detroit...it was a place no normal person would go even 35 years ago. That says a lot right there. Folks, please fight to get your city back before it becomes another Detroit. The people in Michigan let the trash take over.

Posted by: Of course on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:53 PM
More idiots from Michigan. Go figure. Hey WSAZ, thanks for posting my previous comment about sending all these losers to Detroit...or not. Agreeing with Debbie...why aren't you posting comments? There's nothing wrong with them...

Posted by: annoymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:37 PM
If you are depending on the police to protect you, forget it. The only way that will happen is if a cop is standing next to you right before a crime against you starts to occur. They are here to mop up and fill out paperwork. This isn't a slam on the department but more an issue with resources. There is no money for full time task forces that deal with these kinds of pukes and the crimes they commit. At this point, we are overmatched by an element that has been seasoned in violent, hardcore crime and come from an area and culture that has no regard for their personal wellbeing nor anyone elses. We are all on our own when it comes to personal safety. The police we see everyday driving around are just an illusion that we are safe.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:31 PM
To getten worse, the National Guard cannot be just called in to ease high crime rate in a city. If they could they would have to be all over the country occupying cities with bad crime rates. They can only get called in for emergencies such as national disasters, riots, ane homeland invasions. That just is not the answer. The HPD are highly underfunded and this situation spreads so far it's hard to get a hold on it, when drugs are coming from Michigan and pills are being flown in from Florida. How do you combat that? It's not an easy task I would think, otherwise we wouldn't have a problem. I'm really not sure what the solution to the problem is, but National Guard can't fix it.

I am from Lexington, Ky. Most people here refer to it as the big city. Huntington has Lexington beat when it comes to stupid senseless drug crimes!!! Maybe the HPD could use some tips. I personally reported suspicous activity, only to have the 911 operator treat me like I was crazy, and the HPD never showed up to inquire what I and my husband saw. Needless to say it didn't instill a sense wellbeing in me. I am with the Marshall student, can we leave the underage beer drinkers alone HPD, and focus on the real crime? Even my husband and I can spot a drug house.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:30 PM
I am deeply saddened by the increase in crime in Huntington over the last few years. I grew up in Huntington but moved to another part of the state about 12 years ago. My husband and I used to think about moving back, but I don't see it happening now. The crime is too high, and the city seems to be out of control in a downward spiral. What a shame.

Alright Daryl...I've lived in Huntington and Morgantown, and I have to disagree. Morgantown is the worst city I've ever lived or even visited, shootings or not. I could go on for days with the things that are wrong with Morgantown. In regard to Huntington, my theory is get some funding (heck, citizens would probably poney up the dough for this), put all these losers on buses and ship them to Detroit...after that, level the entire area from Cabell Huntington to 6th avenue. Anyone with me?

Posted by: BRITTANY on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:55 PM
WHAT IS THE NAMES OF THE PPL ??????

Posted by: Hey Daryl on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:37 PM
Do you really think Morgantown is that much safer? Here's what Neighborhood Scout has to say about violent crime in both: "According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Morgantown is one in 144." " According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Huntington is one in 160." So according to this, you have more of a chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Morgantown than you do in Huntington. I'm soooo glad I live in Huntington! It has its problems but it's a much better town. Bigger town with more to do. These problems can be fixed. Look at how other cities with these problems have turned things around. It WILL happen here.

Posted by: Lisa on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:34 PM
I moved from Chicago 2 years ago to get away from this kind of crime. Huntington is like a Chicago but i think it is worse. Too many drugs are here, that is the problem. Something has got to be done. This city is way out of control. The bad part is so many people collect disability checks and buy pills with it.

Posted by: lindsay on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:33 PM
It is obvious that all of this crime is becuase of the drug activity!!! It seems like anywhere you are in Huntington, 2 blocks away there is a drug deal going on. It is sad that what nice neighborhoods are left are being taken over by rental properties that are rented to druggies. Something has got to be done. One of these days and innocent bystander is going to be the victim!!!!

Go ahead and establish a curfew. They're criminals, for goodness sake! They won't abide by it and nothing will have been done. Just the same, it's a shame to see what's happening to the beautiful Southside.

Posted by: Joe on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:21 PM
Because praying is obviously working... We need to instigate a curfew? Are you insane? Yeah, lets take away more of our rights because some people dont follow the law. Give me a break. Personally I think the more people who are running the drugs and doing that crap kill each other, its all the better for all of us. I also think everyone needs to stop blaming 'outsiders'. What the monkey is an outsider? Who classifies as 'outside'? Everyone you dont know? Or... I mean that is a ridiculous comment. We need to raise our taxes and put more of a force on the street. We love to blame the cops but we dont give them the funding to do their job. Stop blaming everyone else and step up!

Granted, this was probably drug related, BUT I hope people realize that all people out late at night are not druggies....lots of people are out late legitamately. Nurses working late shifts, newspaper delivery people, restaurant workers to name a few. This is like saying you deserve it if you are out late!

I come to this area to check on some consumers. This scares me some what, because I see all kinds of this things happening the mid day. I was confronted once by a blk gentle who wanted me to buy some crack. I said no and pulled my tazer out to be prepared in case he tried to get in. Though sometimes this doesn't occur all the time, i still feel for my clients because they can't choose where to live like some of us can. I think the gentleman is still alive has been arrested before. I have heard his name many times on the news. mmmmm connection, i think so.

I dont really know what the answer for this problem is , but something has to be done.

Ppl that are NOT from Huntington are really ignorant abnout what goes on in Huntington! Yes, there is drugs & violence here, but it is everywhere & even in the rural areas!!!!!! There are just more ppl in one area, rather than spread out li9ke in the city! Please...if you don't live here, don't comment!!!!!!!!!

I will tell you what else could be going on at that time of the morning...maybe honest people with honest jobs going to work so that other honest workers can stop and get their breakfast. Or plant workers going in to start their day. Have you thought of that?

It is getting scary. I went down early for a MU football game at 7 am because I was smoking some pork and had to get it cooking so it would get done in time. Nobody was tailgating that early and my spot this year was in a somewhat isolated lot. A car pulled up in this isolated lot. I was by myself and scared to death. They just stared at me and drove off. It had to be a deal getting ready to go down. I was afraid and felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was right around the stadium, so it's getting bad all over town.

I SAY ACTIVATE THE LOCAL NATIONAL GUARD AND GIVE THEM TEMPORARY POLICE POWERS. SCATTER THEM OUT ALL AVER THE TOWN,ESPECIALLY IN HIGH CRIME AREAS. DO THIS FOR AWHILE AND TRY TO GET THINGS UNDER CONTROL. THIS IS JUST A THOUGHT. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT NATIONAL GUARD WAS USED FOR. TO HELP PROTECT THE NATION IN AREAS THAT ARE HAVING SERIOUS ISSUES AND SAFETY ISSUES FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE USA. AS WE ALL KNOW HUNTINGTON,WV IS HAVING SERIOUS CRIME ISSUES, NOT JUST PETTY ISSUES EITHER. ITS CRIMES OF VIOLENCE ON OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. THIS IS A THOUGHT TO MAYBE TURN THE CRIMINALS AROUND BEFORE THEY THINK ABOUT DOING SOMETHING AS WE SAW EARLY THIS MORNING. THE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER AND TAKE HUNTINGTON BACK OVER. THE DRUGS AND PROSTITUTION HAS TAKEN OVER HUNTINGTON IN LAST FEW YEARS..

More Deaths More Drugs The City is out of Control Shut it down at 12 pm and instate marshall law in the city.

Posted by: Sam on Dec 3, 2008 at 02:10 PM
I hate to say it but, it's not just Huntington. It's just now hitting us and chances are it's just starting.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 02:08 PM
I agree with "king" I went to Marshall for four years and graduated almost 2 yrs ago. The police were only concerned with giving underage tickets to students... not keeping the students safe from the cities criminals!

Posted by: To, Rob Johnson on Dec 3, 2008 at 01:58 PM
Rob you are a BRAVE man, going up in there without a bulletproof vest... I live in Wayne and as we hit 5th street hill coming into Huntington, the kids and I know we need to put our vests on...

Posted by: anon on Dec 3, 2008 at 01:40 PM
I agree, lets get these hardcore drugs off the streets, it is killing us all. We need not worry about the small things like POT, and lets worry about crack and pills. Get on the ball

confusing to say the least, how could they be shooting at each other when the shots fired at 10th and 13th left a victim injured, followed by cars speeding off, moments later, more shots rang out where the victim was found dead. sounds to me like a double drive by. i guess its possible that the victim that was found shot, was shot at 13th and 10th, then chased the other victim to the alley of 12th, shot the guy and returned to where he was shot at...wouldnt there be some kind of blood trail?

Posted by: Anon on Dec 3, 2008 at 01:06 PM
You people are crazy to think that this place is so unsafe. There are very few random victims. Most are a product of themselves. Mind your own business and stay away from trouble and you will be fine. I lived in a not so great part of town for many years. No problems for me even though a crack house was busted next door. They want drugs and money. The rest of the people are safe.

dont think Detroit! Thank the people here that are buying detroit drugs! If people wouldnt buy them, they wouldnt come here!

Posted by: king on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:55 AM
i go to Marshall university and it seems like the police only care about working under age task force where they make time and a half for over time pay. It looks like to me that the police would care more about catching real criminals rather then a 18 year old with a beer. Thank you Jim Terry And Chief Holbrook do your jobs.

Posted by: sharon on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:53 AM
why are the police letting a guy rake & bag leaves in the same alley the guy is lying in and the neighbor is blowing leaves in his yard. (where the house is roped off) evidence is probably bagged up or blown away. come on police, make em stay away from the scene, that,s why u all can't solve these things.

Again with violent crime in Huntington...sheeesh!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:26 AM
This is news? Usually news is something out of the ordinary. Someone gets shot in Huntington: Big surpise. Might as well report on the sun rising. I bet ER surgeons are getting really good at dealing with gunshot wounds.

Posted by: JD on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:24 AM
The area around Cabell Huntington Hosp just keeps getting worse and worse... yet we have cops sitting in Pullman Square on a Saturday night hanging out in their cruiser failing to catch an armed robber?? I think it's time to focus more on the CHH area with our police presence considering that the extra presence downtown doesn't seem to be helping anything at all... except maybe Starbuck's proffits!

Posted by: Mike on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:18 AM
SANTA might need an armed escort in this area Christmas Eve!

Posted by: Fed Up on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Imagine that another shooting in Huntington. This place is overrun by crack dealers and other pieces of crap. The City and State needs to turn HPD and The West Virginia State Police lose and let them clean up the city.

Posted by: Resident on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:12 AM
If there was not such a market for illicit drugs, they would not be invading our city with the supply. You know it is a fight over drug turf. Time to get out of Dodge folks!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:09 AM
ya know i used to live in columbus and also portsmouth.... i hated portsmouth but truth be know both those cities are better then huntington! i would never live there!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 11:03 AM
Well first a curfew would not work. Second we need a tent city here like Az. They have to much freedom and rights in prison. They get treated like KINGS and QUEENS. When you got o prison you should be treated like a prisoner not living on my money getting treated like KINGS. Bring back the hard labor for them make them pay for the stay at the gray bar motel. Look Gallia county is statring to take the law in to their own hands. Also looked back several years ago where the boy sprayed painted cars (I think that is what it was) he was cained. I bet he thinks twice before picking up a can on spray paint.

anon I disagree with you, the last 2 times I was in Huntington, we ran into riff raff, once at Pullman around 10 P after a movie, my daughter and I were going to our car which was in a well lit and in full view of Pullman, spot. Some guy started walking up behind my daughter at a very fast pace, I told her get in the car quickly, she did and I locked it, he came up to the passenger window banging trying to show her something in his hand, I started to back the car and some young men approached and he ran, the other was the Marshall band fest, first a homeless woman needed money to get home, then a tall stringy haired very wired guy approached my husband, again needing money for an emergency, everything in my being knew he would rob us if my husband got his wallet, again some people came along and he took off. I don't feel a bit safe there.

Posted by: drugtown on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:48 AM
there r 3 drug houses on that corner, this is nothing new, 2 bad the police cant recognize drug activity like the average citizen can, just another day in the new detroit.

Posted by: Michele on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:42 AM
First off ROGER, Not everyone from Detroit are bad drug dealers, thieves,or killers. So your comment isn't necessary. Another thing the people in Huntington are just as warped as people from detroit or anywhere for that matter. For instance my boyfriend is from Detroit he doesnt do drugs sell drugs or has never killed anyone he works a 9-5 job everyday and takes care of his responsibilities. So THANK YOU

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:41 AM
huntington sucks.i will never go there again.

Posted by: Stacey on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:37 AM
I live so close to where this took place. My neighbors & I see and report suspicious looking activity all the time, and what is done about it? NOTHING. There are so many things happening on the South Side, that I'm scared to go out of my house at night. Robberies, shootings, murders, assults....where does it end? When does the city start caring? My two year old son and I really hope that it's soon. It's only a matter of time before an innocent person gets caught up in a tragedy like this.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:14 AM
THERE ARE VIOLENT PEOPLE FROM HUNTINGTON. YOU CANT PUT ALL DA BLAME ON OUT OF TOWNERS.

Posted by: Helm on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:55 AM
I, of all people, thought I would be the last person requesting this, but... Can we please have more police in Huntington? Spend the money Mayor Wolfe, it's worth it. I know we don't have it to spend, but if our Federal Government can spend money that's not there, so can we. This is a horrible situation that continues to get worse. We need experienced law enforcement, not the cheap guys right out of school. I want several task forces put into working order to help eliminate these problems. The drug trafficking in and out of Huntington is out of control. Eliminate the drugs, the "bad guys" will go away with it. They won't stay if there's no money to be made or they know someone is right behind them waiting for their next move. When I say eliminate the drugs, I mean the real stuff. There's obviously a crack cocaine and a heroin problem here locally that wasn't a problem in the past. Take them one by one until their system here in "Moneyton" crumbles.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:46 AM
If you know where Mansours Market a.k.a Saad's Market is. it is directly up the street. 2 blocks from the park. This is a very nice residential neighborhood. Who can forget the 4 children murdered on Charleston Avenue. It is approximately 2 blocks from that horrible crime scene. We have got to hold the Landlords accountable for the occupants that reside in these homes and apartments in order to clean up our city. Mayor Wolfe seems to be a beautiful beginning to the city clean up. Let us all have faith and pray.

Posted by: MeAgain on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:22 AM
OMG! What are you thinking? Walking down an alley that HAS NOT been cleared or secured by police...are you wanting someone to hurt you. Do you really not realize how dangerous this is? What someone could do to you?

Posted by: Anon on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:19 AM
Now this one could be a toss up between "crazy Detroitians" and these "young thugs" from Huntington. Yea, Detroit is cause of most of the problems around the area, but it just seems kind of funny to me that everytime I walk out my front door, HPD is rollin down the street but they can't seem to keep the violence to a low. I just doesn't make any sense. If HPD doesn't start taking care of their business like my tax dollars are paying them to, then I'm packing my things and moving to a city where the police department knows what they are doing.

Posted by: Pablo on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:13 AM
No, its not going to get any better because we are only doing what we've always done. When we get the death penalty for dealing in illegal drugs, then we will start to win this war on crime.

Posted by: Allen on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:50 AM
It is just a fact that as economy gets worst, crime will go up.I believe our economic woes are just getting started,so I for one have armed myself.Be positive and helpfull but also be prepared.

Posted by: MeAgain to Carla on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:44 AM
The crime in Huntington, while I agree "some" police officers in Huntington do little to "protect", the real problem is our justice system. These criminals go through the system like it is a revolving door. In and out in little more than months with little more than a slap on the wrist. Stiffer penalties, and banning out of state criminals from returning would be a good start...wishful thinkng I know...but a good start. Pack them up on the greyhounds they came in on and give them one way tickets out of Huntingotn.

Posted by: Lordy on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:44 AM
I bet if they had jobs they wouldn't have been out at 4:30 in the morning. It's probably government housing in there too. The Gov't should require ALL persons over the age of 18 that live in the residence to either be a full-time student OR hold a full-time job. McDonalds hires full-time people ALL the time. Bums..

Posted by: todd on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:43 AM
when is the cops in huntington going toget off there a-- and do something maybe they need mutual aid like the fire departments do because they are a poor hpd that the tax payers are paying for they are worthless just read the paper

Posted by: anon-1 on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:38 AM
I agree with Anonymous about the curfew.

Posted by: Nichole on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:36 AM
The crime rate in this city just keep shooting up. Why is the law enforcement doing nothing about it? We need more police and more protection. I agree that we may be safer in Detroit because all of their crack, cocaine, and marijuana dealers are coming to MONEYINGTON and NO ONE is afraid of the police here. They know their chances are getting away are more likely then their chances of being caught. Just like in the just like the 4 kids who were killed on 5-22-05...almost four years ago and still NO ANSWERS.

They only way u will clean up a town is to be more strict about the laws, and keep the prostitutes, thugs, and any other drugies off the streets and build more jails and prisions, not only does it put them away, but it creates jobs also, i used to go to huntington alot for the concerts and events at the civic center, its not a good time when ur inside supposed to be having fun, but instead ur wondering if someone has broken in ur car or done damage to it or if u will get to ur car without a problem. Pray for huntington, Keep up the good work WSAZ just come to ky a little more so we know whats going on here to.

Posted by: cc on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Seems like every time a law enforcement agency tries a curfew (though it makes sense), the legality of it is challenged by someone. The court system then determines that a curfew is a violation of the rights of the person. It's a shame, but I've watched it now for years. Everyone, except the law-abiding citizen, has rights!

I smell Detroit.I can remember at one time you didnt hear this stuff on the news, until Huntington became Monington. Thanks Detroit!!

My sister-in-law was the first to call 911. It was said that because of her quick response she helped save the wounded mans life. Its people like this that everyone should be thankful for out there in our cities. Who ever knew that having a "sleeping" problem would be so helpful. There needs to be better crime watch in my opinion. Her bedroom window could have easily been shot into. And here I thought I lived on a rough, un-safe street and in a bad neighborhood. Obviously something illegal or stupid was going on for two people to have been shot, and now one is dead. Whatever was going on, its not worth someone life. That was someones Father, brother, son, etc.. Its so sad when you dont even feel safe going to the movies or going to bed at night, a right we all have, to be safe in our towns, and no one is.

Posted by: sherry on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:08 AM
that's what i think 2 huntigton is out of control & it's not going to get any better & that's why i don't go down much any longer to see my mother or family's the law needs to cut down on these people BADLY!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: MamaC on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:05 AM
Anyone know who the victims were?

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:03 AM
No these arent your average law abiding citizens but they arent the only ones being victimized! Huntington IS growing worse and worse and I could tell you a handful of stories of crimes happening to innocent, law abiding citizens in the middle of the day! I graduated from Marshall almost 2 yrs ago and I was robbed at gunpoint at my job at a local grocery store and my roomate was mugged on our front porch..and weeks later another person in my building was held at gunpoint on her porch in broad daylight as well! This horrible stuff just doesnt happen to people who are out in the middle of the night and involved in bad things.. it is spreading and affecting EVERYONE in town!

Posted by: Tasha on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:02 AM
Is there any place that's safe now days?

Posted by: bob on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:01 AM
I dont care if you are asleep not harming anyone, stray bullets, someone trying to get into your house etc. There will be a mass exodus out of crackville unless the cops start sweeping the streets.

Posted by: A on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:58 AM
A curfew might be a good idea, however, it is hard to enforce. Also, I'd be willing to be there would be an outcry about it.

Posted by: Anon on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:55 AM
I doubt seriously that we would last more than a few minutes in Detroit. That is overstating things a bit.

Posted by: APRIL on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:40 AM
WE NEED TO TO TAKE OUR CITY BACK THERE ARE STILL GREAT PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS PLACE,AND CHASE THE DETROIT TUGS BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM! BACK IN MY FATHER GENERATION THEY WOULD HAVE DON'T THAT THEMSELVES.WE NEED TO START REPORTING KNOWN DRUG ACTIVITY AND SERIOUS CRIME INSTEAD OF SITTING STILL ON OUR HANDS AND MAYBE THIS PROBLEM WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN SO OUT OF HAND

Posted by: Susan on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:35 AM
Yeah, we all keep complaining, but nothing is done. This has been going on for several YEARS! We catch a few, put them in jail for a while, they plea out and they are back on the street. A new plan would be great. Like - two strikes and you are out! Make 'em live in tents and wear pink like the sheriff in Arizona.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:32 AM
what is in this town or who i may add?that these drug dealers are staying here for?most of the folk's i know are barely making it .let alone have the money to buy drug's and the last time i checked you have to have a job to have money.there is just to many shootings going on in this town for someone to not know what is going on if the police know who they are then i think they should make them leave town or put them in jail stop playing games with them they have to sleep sometime

Posted by: Miranda on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:27 AM
I go to Marshall and crime is getting so bad. Last night my roomates vehicle got broken into and we live just one block from campus. You don't feel safe even walking to class.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:27 AM
I beg to differ. The fact that we're not involved in illegal activities is beside the point. They have brought it to the front doors of innocent families. I praying for us all.

Posted by: me on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:26 AM
Surprise, surprise. Somebody else dies in Hellington. It probably is safer in Detroit because their drug dealers are all here. If cops would start checking all of the clunker cars with out of state tags that hang around, maybe some of this would end.

Posted by: JM on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:25 AM
I certainly feel for the people that live in these neighborhoods that are innocent bystanders to the fact. I thought it was interesting this morning during Chris Olsen's "phone report" to hear him say he was walking down an alley that had yet to be blocked off by police. What was he thinking???? I know getting the news is a reporters job but give me a break.

Posted by: Citizen on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:23 AM
WE NEED A CURFEW I WOULDNT DOUGHT THAT ONE OR BOTH THE VICTIMS COULD BE BE JUVENILES

Posted by: Lucia on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:17 AM
I bet it was somebody from out of town doing the shooting. There are too many outsiders here to feel safe.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 07:07 AM
Folks these aren't your average, law abiding, innocent citizens that this is happening to. These are people out doing things they shouldn't be in the wee hours of the morning when most people are asleep. If you are not involved in illegal activities, you have little to fear in Huntington. Maybe they need to try a curfew in certain areas to see if this helps curtail some of this violence and crime.

Posted by: Carla on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:56 AM
We need to pray for Huntington...it is so scary! You cant even go to the movies without worrying about being robbed at gunpoint. There really need to be some changes in the way police are protecting this city. Something needs to be done seriously. At this point, we might be safer in Detroit.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 3, 2008 at 06:29 AM
