Logan As A Destination

Southern West Virginia is known for its great ATV trails and small coal mining towns. Now, the region is hoping to give its coal heritage a new life, while giving visitors more reasons to come and enjoy the area.

It's was a reunion at a place that wasn't even on the radar when the folks from Logan High School graduated.

Bill Drake graduated in 1953. The reunion is a stroll down memory lane, but the new Chief Logan Conference Center, for him, is a glimpse into southern West Virginia’s future.

For 71 years, Jim Fortune has called Logan home.

“It's slowly coming,” said Fortune. “About 50 years too late.”

It was his first look at the center.

The idea behind this 60 thousand square foot center is to create a home away from home for fun and business. Activities like the annual Arts and Crafts Fair are one way community leaders are hoping to weave their plan together.

They’re putting a little muscle in the economy, and mixing the old with the new. It’s a chance for a refreshing change.

The Chief Logan Conference Center is the only conference center in the southern part of the state.
