Many say soldiers killed in service don't get the credit they deserve, let alone half a century later. But on Saturday morning, a Kanawha County man who lost his life fighting in the Korean War got a very special honor. A bridge in Campbells Creek was re-named in his honor.

The Point Lick Bridge has a new name in honor of a young man. Jimmie D. Bays was just 18-years-old when was killed in Korea.

With memories floating all around, Campbells Creek was the perfect place to honor Jimmie's memory.

Sergeant Shane McLane married into the Bays family, and doesn't think veterans are recognized enough.

“It’s just so emotional, I'm so proud of what I do,” said McLane. “To know that flag we flew when we were in Iraq is now in honor of his brother is just outstanding.”

The family standing just as proudly on Saturday, as Jimmie Bays did back in 1950.

Jimmie Bays was killed in action on September 5, 1950. Just two weeks ago, his family decided they would have a funeral for him at the Grafton National Cemetery in Taylor County, West Virginia. His body was never recovered. His family thought with the bridge dedication that now was the right time for a funeral.
