In honoring Jones as mayor of the year, the municipal league noted Jones work with implementing the user fee in the city to pay for police and paving projects and the creation of an arts festival called Festivall as two of Jones' major accomplishments.

“This Mayor has already accomplished more in the first few years of his administration than perhaps any other mayor of his city in recent history,” said out-going League President Terry Williams.

Jones becomes the first mayor since Mike Roark in 1986 to serve as president of the municipal league, an organization of cities in West Virginia.

Jones' term in office is up in 2007. He says he'll make his announcement about future plans in November. Jones also got married last year. He and his wife, Sara, are expecting a child soon.
