Search crews have recovered the body of a woman from Barboursville who police believe drowned in the Guyandotte River.

Police say Meliissa Vincent, 45, went swimming last Saturday evening.

Friends say they asked Vincent to get out of the swift water, but she refused and said she was having too much fun.

They say when the current carried her out of sight, they assumed she got out of the water and went home.

A security guard who works at the nearby Veteran’s Home heard the story from a witness this morning and called police.

Emergency crews began a search, and they found the body a few hours later about 2 miles down river from where Vincent was last seen.

Police do not suspect foul play, but they’re waiting on an autopsy before they close the investigation.

Police drove Vincent’s mother to the scene to identify her daughter’s body.
