Change, it's a fact of life. It starts early when our children are in school with the transition from elementary school to the next level. A growing number of school consolidations are adding to the changes and transitions.

Four schools, who used to compete against one another, must now work together as one.

On a smaller scale, there's a similar transition here at Verity Middle School in Ashland. Like many school districts, several elementary schools pour into one middle school creating a dynamic melting pot.

Curtlyn Cramer says, “There are a lot of different kids here. I get to meet new people and make new friends.”

For Curtlyn Cramer, this melting pot is full of treats.

Sometimes, the challenges of change are a little more practical. Simple things like opening your locker are enough to throw some for a loop.

Some students are embracing their new home with hope!

Pamela Clark is the school counselor at verity. She says whether it's on the football field or in the classroom, preparing your children for the possible pitfalls of any change sets them up for success.

Ms. Clark explains, “Parents have to recognize this change and be ready.”

Verity middle school offers a program called jumpstart that gives students a chance to visit the school, find their classes and practice on their lockers. Many schools offer similar programs other schools that don't, welcome parents and their students to arrange a visit.
