GRAYSON, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Nearly 80 workers from the Smithfield plant in Grayson will be looking for a job after the first of the year.
About 300 people work at the plant, which processes hams. A company spokesperson said because of lowered seasonal demand they asked for volunteers to be laid off, and 45 workers volunteered.
The company will lay off an additional 35 probationary workers for a total of 80. The layoffs will take effect Jan. 3. There is no word on when the employees will be called back.
