PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (WSAZ) - Ninety people took off their winter coats and jumped into the Ohio River on New Year's Day. This was the 8th year for the annual Blockhouse Polar Plunge.
The group gathered at noon along the riverbank to run into the water. They had a good reason. They did this to raise money for the local Boy Scouts and MRDD special needs kids.
At the time of the plunge, Phil Malone says the water was 40 degrees and the air just 25 degrees. He sent us some of these e-reporter pictures.
About 500 people watched while a record number of swimmers took off into the water.
