KENOVA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kenova police have arrested a man they say has been trafficking drugs from Detroit to North Carolina.

David Adkins was arrested and charged with seven counts of possession with intent to deliver.

Kenova police have been watching the house on Walnut Street for more than two years.

Police served a search warrant on Friday night and found several different drugs inside the house including oxycotin, methadone, and adderall along with guns and over three thousand dollars in cash.

Police tell us the drug ring went through Kenova to North Carolina and Detroit. Police say they also found records inside the home that they say prove that Adkins has been selling drugs for two years.

Adkins is being held in the Western Regional Jail.

I feel sad to think that our hometown is getting corrupted with drugs. I grew up in Kenova and have always felt that it was like Mayberry. Times change I guess. When I was a kid you didn't even have to lock your doors at night - boy, that has changed. I hope that the drug abusers and sellers change their lives and figure out that this is not a good way to live their lives. It will only bring sorrow on them and their families.

Posted by: betcha on Feb 5, 2009 at 08:01 AM
I can betcha that MOST families have a family member that is over using medications. If they are then it goes from being a medication user to a drug user. Let's be careful about judging others. However,I am thrilled that one more drug abuser is off of the streets.I appreciate KPD on their hard work!GOOD JOB!Please look at other areas such as (Barger Hill)!!I do feel sorry for David Adkins family and for him as well. I hope that he gets his life straightened out & realizes that selling drugs is not a career choice.I work for a Pharmacy and have worked for many physicians in the past and I know for a fact that medications are NEEDED for illnesses, they do not need to be misused-this is where it falls under a drug abuser. It is not the medications that are the problem-it is the person using them and misusing them that is the issue. Hunt. and Fort Gay areas are probably worse than Kenova, however Kenova can get in the same shape if KPD is not watching closely. Let's pray for our entire town!

To the last Anonymous I ask, "Who died and left you in charge?" We all are entitled to our opinions. Some of us want the drug situation addressed and taken care of and we will take what we can get to get it done, even if it is KPD, at least they are trying, even if it took them 2 years. I am like the others, instead of selling drugs to our kids, get a REAL job to support yourself like the rest of us do.

How about this.... I say lets wait until the trial is over so we can find out exactly what the verdict is before we start condemming him. I know he is charged with 7 felonies, but did you all know that one of those charges is for 2 Prednisone pills?? Seriously, is it a felony in the state of WV to possess Prednisone? If so, I'd better hurry up and clean out my medicine cabinet before I get arrested for having too much Nyquil. There are only a handful of people out there that know exactly what is going on with this case so let's let them worry about it for now and after the trial everyone else can put their 2 cents in.

TO KPD THER IS A ABOUGHT TEEN HOUSES AND A TRAILER ON SICKEYMORE ST THAT IS DEALING IN DRUGS AND KPD KNOWS IT AND U WHANT DO NOTHING IT IS TIME TO GET THE FBI INVALED SO EVERY KID IN KENOVA CAN BE SAFE

Posted by: Olde Phart on Jan 18, 2009 at 09:23 AM
Drug users...watch out...here comes the law. Nice records kept by NOSE. Great job KDPS. Glad to see the FBI now involved. Show no mercy. Choices were made by person with the ability to obtain a job to legally support themselves but they choose to become a blight on the community. Show no mercy.

I agree with Justme also, drugs are in both Ceredo and Kenova and Ceredo does need a new mayor and some real changes made in order to get these towns cleaned up. First off we need to admit Ceredo does have a drug problem just like Kenova. The police need to stay off James River Road and up by Camden Park and start watching inside city limits for real crimes, instead of 10-7 traffic. Try the old Big Bear lot, you may just see a drug deal taking place both day and night. I know I have witnessed it myself a time or two, I am sure.

I agree with Detective Girl, It took 2 years to bring this guy down, what about Terry Methax's murder. His family is in limbo and nothing is being done. Besides that KPD needs to watch a couple of houses on Oak Street too, They all know it is going on and won't even stop all the drug traffic day after day.

Are you trippin? Just have to ask.WOW!!

Posted by: Justme on Jan 12, 2009 at 11:41 AM
I agreee with you fedup.Ceredo needs cleaned up also. Those apartments across from the Ceredo police station has been drug infested for too long. And the house behind those apartments needs a good cleaning also.I think Ceredo needs a new mayor and some real cops before anything is done. That older woman behind those apartments is the biggest pill head in town. Not to mention being a thief on top of that.Clean Ceredo-Kenova up it used to be such a nice place to live.Lets get rid of all the druggies and thieves.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 11, 2009 at 08:14 PM
I am glad they are starting to fall one at a time!! Get them all!! Good job cops! Keep it up..Clean up the streets and get these losers outta here!!

Posted by: fed up on Jan 11, 2009 at 05:59 PM
nose is going to end up at exactly where he belongs in the pen lol lol lol catch them all watch them fall lol lol lol don't forget ceredo there is some house cleaning that needs to be done there also

Finally Reynolds gets a real drug bust. Should have waited until the deals came through from Florida and other states. I can believe it took 2 years because the cops are busy smoking up all the weed they confiscated by other people. Also, why has nothing been done about the unsolved murder of Terry? Let's see, they are to worried about finding Lunestar or Adderal. Thumbs up to the Oxycotins, but the other drugs, that would be embarrising to mention. Also the fact it took 2 years of my tax paying money for the KPD to lay around on there rears with their binoculars and phone bugs. I have one question. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW???????

Posted by: pam on Jan 9, 2009 at 10:01 PM
heck, yeah.....way to go.....so you got Nose; well how about getting Stephanie and JP and all the other pill selling fools in the this town who are killing our kids?????

Posted by: Jake on Jan 8, 2009 at 03:21 PM
This drug bust might be the only thing that can save this boys life. I don't believe that the majority of you truly understand the disease of addiction. As for you ck12, you must be going through withdrawls to want him free right now. After he does his time maybe he can get professional help and live a happy, fulfilling life in recovery. I hope they catch them all. For the one's that are reading this and are suffering PLEASE get some help. You can't do it alone.

Posted by: anonymous on Jan 8, 2009 at 01:00 PM
dont forget about all the former kpd that either had been fired or made to resign because of their drug problems, these guys are no different. mabey the mayor should check the people he has working for him.these guys are probaly doing the drugs they confinscated as we speak.they think they got a major dealer,3000 dollars is simple. try 255,000 that huntington got the other day, that is a major dealer. no doubt he made a mistake and should pay for it, but dont blow it way out line. kenova is a joke!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 06:39 PM
To T, Dave had nothing to do with Spud. Why you would even bring that up is stupid. Obviously you don't know either one of them or what they were doing.

Posted by: T on Jan 7, 2009 at 12:59 PM
ARE YOU REALLY SO SURPRISED? THAT'S WHY IT TOOK SO LONG TO BUILD A CASE, HE HID BEHIND THAT GOOD GUY IMAGE! I KNOW SPUD IS LAUGHING AT YOU NOW, NOSE! I HOPE THE REAST OF YOU GET CAUGHT ALSO. MAYBE YOUR NAMES ARE IN HIS JOURNEL! THINK ABOUT IT!

Posted by: to tj on Jan 6, 2009 at 11:02 PM

To Foxy:..."This medication is a strong narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine. This medication is used to treat moderate to severe pain that is expected to last for a long period of time. It should be used on a regular schedule as prescribed by your doctor, not on an as-needed basis. You should use the 60 milligrams, 80 milligrams, or 160 milligrams tablets only if you have been taking moderate to large amounts of a potent narcotic medication (e.g., morphine). Use of these high-strength tablets by someone who is not regularly taking narcotic medications can cause serious (possibly fatal) breathing problems (e.g., very slow and shallow breathing). Swallow the tablets whole. Broken, chewed or crushed tablets may release large (possibly life-threatening) amounts of medication into your body."..(www.webmd.com)..search "OxyContin Oral"

IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT KPD DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS THERE ARE MORE DRUGS IN KENOVA SO KPD AND THE WVSP AND WAYNE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT DO SOME MORE ARREST

Posted by: about time on Jan 5, 2009 at 01:51 PM
its about time the Kenova police department go after the "REAL" criminals and stop picking on people they don't like, I lived in Kenova all my life and was bullied out, being accused of things I didn't do. In the end I prevailed, and am thanking everyday that I don't have to raise my children around the snotty, stuck up people who think they are better than everyone else. You live in Kenova people, this town is laughed at and looked down at all the time, so glad I got out. As much as I hated leaving my hometown, I am now thanking every person who contributed to my move.

I understand that people should be punished when they commit a crime, and I'm sure everyone is in agreeance on that issue. That should be where the line is drawn. No one needs to makes comments on someone's character, especially someone they don't really know. You haven't experienced their experiences or walked even one step in their shoes. I am Nose's friend and .J.T. was my best friend and I've NEVER done drugs. Nose has a college degree, was at the top of his graduating class at SVHS and has a good heart. I'm not saying he didn't mess up, but I dare anyone to say they haven't messed up before....NO ONE IS PERFECT! Getting punished for this mistake will hopefully save his life. So stop with your judgements, it's not your call. And I'm honored that I was able to spend the time I did with J.T., he made my life better. Everyone needs to be respectful and stop making comments about J.T., this isn't about him and it isn't appropriate to bring his name onto this message board. Thank you.

My husband battled cancer for a year, stage 4 and not one dr. would give him anything stronger than a Loritab 5. So don't be act'n like there are drs. out there that actually care about pain. The ones that should care don't any longer cause of people abusing pain pills. Its rather sickening.

The reason human behavior like this exists is due to our monetary-based system. - If we move to a resourced-based system this will end. Check out www.zeitgeistmovie.com or www.thezeitgeistmovement.com to see the future of humanity. ("Zeitgeist" is German meaning- "The Spirit of our Times") The movie may freak you out a little bit, or stretch your concepts of ethical humanity, but you NEED to AT LEAST watch the Zeitgeist Addendum if you can't handle the Zeitgeist movie. - Remember, once your mind expands, it can not shrink back! - The World, as it is right now, has the ability to sustain all life on Earth and provide everyone with an abundance of everything. Plenty of clean power for thousands of years through GeoThermal, Wind, Solar, Water Turbines and Tidal Generators. Stop falling for the fractional reserve banking lie which ruins humanity. Wake up and enlighten yourself through education...yes, education of the heart, mind and soul. Turn your TV's off!

I think we should believe the honest integrity of all police officers, without question. Anything they say should be taken as the absolute truth and we should give them the right to do anything they wish to stop what they feel is wrong or unlawful. Anybody who objects to the way our police and government is being operated should be immediately labeled as a "terrorist" with all constitutional rights stripped away. Now get back to work. You need to get another job to pay for the rich people's interests. After all, they are rich, so they must be smarter than us little people.

TO RACHEL...What world do you live in? Oxy pills shuts down your organs. Is that a help? People are killing themselves taking this drug whether they are terminal or not. The drug KILLS YOU. The person that developed this needs to be sued by every death that it is associated with. Why would anyone take a drug that shuts down your major organs? Why has the government allowed that? Oh, sorry, I forgot...$$$$$

Posted by: Rachel on Jan 5, 2009 at 04:37 AM
To those of you who think these drugs should not be perscribed.(Like oxy)This drug is used for cancer patients. It is needed. The drug dealers get these from corupt doctors and also patients that need the money to pay for medical bills. This drug is useful but like every other drug it can be abused so do not say is should be discontinued...it helps more then it hurts.

It is amazing what people, including reporters, focus on when they write a news piece and tag along comments. Some real issues to think about when someone is arrested for a crime are: What are real facts? Do I really know the facts I am penning? What are the affects of my writing on those I write about and those in the circle of that individual, parents, bothers and sisters, other family members? I am an Ordained Minister, as a minister one task is counseling those who hurt. I have counseled many when I was active, including inmates in a large county jail and some in a large state prison. Many, not all, have a great deal of remorse for their actions. Others just feel bad they were caught, but feel extremely bad over the negative publicity their actions brought onto their family and friends. Much more this anguish when people communicate false and half truth comments at will where ever they chose. Sadly we live in a day when society feels they have the right to say whatever about whomev

Wow Kat,I'm impressed! You were able to ascertain more about the case from a 6 sentence article than the police did in 2 years of surveillance! Are you one of those detectives from CSI, cause you should have been. Thanks for the "real story". A regular Joe like myself might have been tempted to assume that after 2 years, the police had enough info. to obtain a warrant, and the story just didn't mention it.Stupid, I know!I might have also been led to believe that the connections from NC and Detroit were drug related...but I see now they were probably just friends and family. And as for the cash and drugs: forgive this novice of again assuming that the amount of drugs in the HOUSE were not what LED to his ARREST, but rather the evidence collected over 2 years. And, thanks for pointing out the mispellings of that evil reporter.I would have gone throughout my day thinking he was correct, and may have embarrassed myself by mispelling them, too. Wow, an ace detective AND a wordsmith! IMPRESSIVE

I think that everyone is blowing this way out of proportion. Ppl have been talking about his brother's (J.T.) death, may he Rest In Peace, when none of that is relavent. Kenova is a little Andy Griffith town with alot of ppl in it who like to gossip and thats all it boils down to. Nose really is a great guy who just got caught up in the wrong world and started to enjoy what little perks are in it. I hope he gets the help that he needs, gets his life straight and stays clean. He could really be something great if he put his mind to it. I will be praying for not only him but his family as well. You will be in my prayers Nose.

Well first of all I’m shocked by how many ignorant and insensitive remarks there are here. I want to say that David and JT weren’t brought up wrong. They were given every opportunity that Jon and I were, maybe even a few more. People need to remember that we all make mistakes. Some carry greater consequences than others. I don’t condone David’s actions but he’s my brother and I’ll not stand idly by while someone bad mouths him. He and JT are good kids that made bad choices. JT paid the ultimate price and David will have to pay for his crimes. To Dobble. I know you probably won’t see this but it needs to be said. You screwed up big time. What were you thinking? We all still love you. I know for you, life is getting really real right now. You’re not alone we’re here for you. Keep your chin up and you’ll get through this.

OK complainers.. enough! First being a police officer is a public service job, if you can do better fill out an application.. huh no takers huh? Also, before you can arrest someone today you must have iron clad evidence to prosecute and win. I have seen the kenova police department work, they are very good and dilligent. How about some ... job well done officers. What whinners, get off you behinds and start a community watch program or volunteer at a local food bank... something!! Just quite bashing people that are doing something, please!

David Adkins worked diligently to build his criminal enterprise and did a shrewd job of staying under the radar . I know he has to have stashed a huge amount of cash , I have seen Drug Dealers go of to Federal Prison and do their time and return to a life of luxury . He Probably knew this day would come and was prepared . Now if he got 20 years manditory time , my bet is he wouldn't be ready for that .

It's about time that police department did something other than pulling cars over for not having a light on their license plate. I have been stopped at least 10 times in the last 5 years, my cars are new by the way. It doesn't surprise me that it took them 2 years to make an arrest. They lost the best cop they had from Ceredo when Randall went to Barboursville.

I had plenty to say about the low life in Kenova, but it wasn't posted.

That was good job by the kenova police. Now I would like to see more of the community get their life together and leave them drugs alone. These young kids see easy money and its these out of towners thats bringing our local youth down I know they are responsible for their actions. With economy down and no jobs its even hard for a college graduate to even get a job. Everyone makes a mistake. It is still sad to see our young kids these days on these drugs and see them to do anything to get them it is just plain sad

I think that the KPD is doing a great job. To all of you that want to run your mouth needs to take a look at yourself, because you want to bash these officers for making a small differance but what kind of differance are you making in this world. Most of you NOTHING. They are doing what they can with as little support and help from the negative one's like you.

to Kat_Christkins on 01/03/09 at 10:56 AM: I think you should wait for more info before you run your stupid mouth. According to WSAZ he had 12 people working for him. I am getting tired of of hearing you tree huggers talk about civil rights for drug dealers. I have found that most of the time the police are right. The next time you need help call a drug dealer.

Good job KPD & WVSP!! it's about time you start cleaning house. thats 1 down and half of kenova to go. It's a shame everywhere you look and everyone you know is hook of some kind of dope. Kenova use to be a good place to call home but now it nothing but thugs and drugs. don't know why it would take 2 yrs to take a dealer down. The records that the police found i'm sure tells who he was selling or was owed should be arrested as well. What doctor would be prescribing these drugs. was this Adkins guy termimally ill? who would have such drugs in his possession and only in his 20's. without a terminal diagnosis.

Okay people...here's the real story: Whenever there are no quantities reported, then you MUST assume that there is very little in amounts. Maybe a few pills. How were the police able to get a warrant? It wasn't mentioned so you MUST assume that there was a civil rights violation. - $3,000 in cash...That's not any great amount. I am poor, but I have three grand tucked away safely for emergency...so it sounds to me like they rolled a poor pill popper like a drunk in an alley. And by all means, whatever the police tell us MUST be true and should be reported as truth. - Now on to this shoddy journalism: The proper name is "Oxycontin." and "Adderall" is a brand name, a proper noun, always to be capitalized. This reporter can't spell and has no depth so why should we believe his third-hand information in the first place?
