A man from Clay County, West Virginia admitted Tuesday he tried to blow up a sheriff's deputy with a bomb.
Samuel Murphey pleaded guilty to federal bomb charges related to the 2005 plot.
The bomb never hit its intended target, instead it exploded in a wooded area of Clay County, wounding a man who was collecting cans.
The State Fire Marshal says the bomb was intended to maim or kill a law enforcement officer.
Murphey will be sentenced in November.
