CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Fed Up With Drug Addiction -- that's the name of a program seeing success in the Boyd County Jail.
The growing trend continues to be prescription drug abuse, with the grip of addiction so intense that it's changing lives forever.
There is an effort, however, to help people stay clean for good. Deborah Reeves helps run the drug court in Boyd County.
She said the trend she has seen in the last decade is the explosion of prescription drug addiction.
"They don't grow up and say, 'I'm going to be a drug addict, a pusher; I'm going to commit crimes, disappoint my family, lose my job. I'm going to prison and lose my life.' That's not their goal. That's the seriousness of this disease," Reeves said.
Jamie Cumpton and Tracy Robinette are among two of nearly 15 female inmates enrolled in a faith-based, structured, family-involved rehab program run by the Boyd County jailer and his wife. While the program has been around a while, the Fed Up with Drug Addiction program for women only kicked in around the holiday.

To those who think addiction isn't a disease, wait until it happens to someone you love. Then you'll want to learn all you can about brain chemistry and how to try and begin to get the brain to think normally again. To those who volunteer their time and talents to the Fed Up program, I thank you. Drug addiction has become an epidemic in our tri-state area and it won't get any better until it is addressed in a big way. Please accept my gratitude for what you are doing. To quote my pastor, "You are laying up treasures in heaven." Those having a compassionate heart will be blessed.
