Caught red-handed stealing copper.

That's what Gallia County sheriff's deputies found when they checked out a tip about suspicious activity at a local power substation.

Thomas Ball, who is 25, and Brietta Seagraves, who's 28, both from Vinton County, were caught loading several reels of copper into the back of their pickup truck.

The stolen property totaled about $1,300 in value.

Buckeye Rural Electric says this substation at Rodney, just off U.S. 35 between Rio Grande and Gallipolis has been the target of several thefts, where people are trying to cash in by recycling the metal.

Buckeye Rural offers a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects responsible for stealing or damaging co-op property.
