Walking and talking is something most of us take for granted, but on Saturday in St. Albans, one man with a debilitating disease organized a gospel festival to raise money for a cure. He has a passion to make a difference.

Don Coldwell is in his thirties. He has trouble doing what most people his age take for granted...walking and talking.

“I appreciate when I can walk,” said Coldwell.

Don appreciates every minute he has with his wife and kids because he wasn't supposed to even live this long.

“Most people are dead by their mid-20s and I'm one of the rare cases where I'm still walking and I'm still living," said Coldwell.

Don has Friedreich's Ataxia. It's an inherited disease that damages the nervous system. It causes such things as loss of balance and coordination, speech problems and muscle spasms.
But he's not letting the sometimes painful symptoms of the disease stop him from helping others. Don organized the gospel festival to raise money to find a cure for the disease.

He believes this disease is something everyone should care about.

“If they care now, by the time their grandchild or somebody has some kind of neuromuscular disease, the cure may be there,” said Coldwell.
