A truck driver is in the hospital today after stopping to help a stranded driver last night on I-64.
It happened at about 4:00 a.m. near the east bound rest area, which is close to the West Huntington exit on I-64 east.
The driver stopped to help a woman who flagged him down, and said her car was broken down. Police say the truck driver got in an exchange with the male on the scene, and then shot in the back.
The driver managed to call 9-1-1, and reported the incident.
Police are still searching for the man and woman, driving a dark blue Ford Taurus with Michigan plates.
Police say they have alerted law enforcement about the couple from Huntington to east of Charleston, and they are still investigating the case.
The victim was conscious at the scene, and transported to St. Mary's Hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
