GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A 13-year old girl is in the hospital after police say she mauled by two pit bulls.

It happened Saturday night at a house on Spruce Street in Gallipolis.

Police say they were forced to shoot and kill both dogs in order to get them to release the girl.

The girl was first taken to Holzer Medical Center, and then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Columbus where she is being treated for several severe injuries.

Gallipolis Police say they expect to file charges against owner of the dogs in the near future.

Police have not released any names at this time.

i was raised with pitts all my life i am 28 years old and i have never had a pit bite me. however i have been bitten by a rottweiler on 2 different occassions,a chow on one, a pekingneses, and the familly collie. I don't think that makes all the aboved named dogs killers so why label a pit if every oher breed were drug through the news everytime they bit we would just have to ban all dogs? this is about as stupid as banning pitts. i hope to soon the proud owner of a blue pit. so thats just that go pits!!!!!

I agree that it is not necessarily the dog breed but the personality of the individual dog that can make them aggressive or not. As a young girl, I was bit by a German Sheppard because I ran out of peanuts that I was feeding it. Luckily I had a few scratches on my face and nothing else. I have owned 2 German Sheppards as adults and both of them were/are big babies. My golden retriever mix however is a different story. She is great around children but will aggressively go after other dogs despite much professional training.

I remember a trucker who was very fond of his chihuahua...a replacement for one that a pitbull had ripped to pieces..then ATE. He himself suffered injuries trying to save the poor little guy. He said the terrified, pain-filled look on his dog's face was the most heart breaking thing he had ever seen. The cops did nothing...THEN. But later that night, he came out with a baseball bat, and treated himself to the most gruesomely SATISFYING thing he had ever seen... The VERY SAME look on the face of that pit bull as he bashed it to death. He awoke in the morning of the next day staring up the barrel of a shotgun...brandished by one of the VERY SAME COPS who refused to take his complaint the day before. He spent one year to the very day in jail for that, plus letting the court and the judge know that he was NOT "sorry", and would NEVER pay "damages". upon his release he was given his current dog as a homecoming gift... and he now keeps a LOADED SHOTGUN handy for the NEXT pit bull.
