UPDATE Wednesday @ 7:55 p.m.
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A lot of people hit the Huntington Mall to find shelter from the storm.
Power outages at home forcing them to flee in search of warmth and something to eat, but the mall is battling its own problems.
Water damage has forced many businesses to shut down.
The Mall’s Management would not allow WSAZ on the property with our camera so I went in as a customer.
What I found was a mess.
A leaking roof has affected roughly 50 stores inside, forcing some to close.
Mall Management said the building is 28 years old, and like a lot of businesses under a flat roof, the weight of heavy snow, ice, and water is a strain.
For some customers who traveled to get out of the cold, it was a disappointing shock.
“We just went to get something to eat, we have no power,” one woman said.
Another customer said he was not surprised by the leaks, “they've had trouble with the roof before, and it doesn't surprise me. I’ve been over there before with water running in, it’s not unexpected.”
The Public Works Director says they've gotten several calls from businesses dealing with heavy snow on roof tops.
We have also learned the Foodfair in Ashland has had leaking because of the heavy wet, load on its roof.

ORIGINAL STORY
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Some 50 stores at the Huntington Mall are experiencing water problems today.
It's the result of a leaky roof due to the snow and ice.
Mall General Manager Joe Johnston tells WSAZ.com the problem is worse in some stores, but he says the mall is open.
Johnston says that anytime you have a 28-year old building with a 15-acre flat roof you are going to have problems.
Johnston wouldn't let our video camera in, but several people sent us pictures of the mess inside the mall.
We also have reports of a big roof leak at the Foodfair in Ashland.
WSAZ.com visited the store and found several of the drop ceiling panels off and some water.
Workers are cleaning up the mess while the store remains open.
The Foodfair also has a flat roof.

Yes, the Huntington Mall is fixing the water leaks, but what they do not tell you is that the cost of repairs do not come out of the Teanents rent. It is actually an extra charge past on to store owners at the end of the year. All the repairs and maintence fees are totalled up at the end of the year and divided between all the huntington mall stores. So if your thinking about leasing at the Huntington Mall, you better take a LONG HARD look at there contract!! Cause not only are you paying an abundance of rent per month but u are also charged many other miscellaneous fees as well.
The huntington mall is working on the roof, but still hasnt fixed the problem of water leaks, as my store was leaking this week! And i hear that they are just fixing it in places not everywhere!!
I cant believe the news didnt report on the accident that happened this morning at the huntington mall.... A maintence worker was changing light bulbs and got shocked!! EMS were doing cpr on him for at least 30 minutes and continued to do so till they wheeled him out. I sure hope he's ok. I wonder if there was a water leak around the light he was changing out?? My prayers are with him and his family.
