On Saturday, a body was found in a creek. It happened just inside the Ironton city limits. Police believe it was an accidental drowning. And now, there is a family that is afraid it could be their uncle, but investigators have not identified the body.
It all happened at 2:30 p.m. at Storms Creek. The creek runs right along Lawrence Street. It is just inside Ironton city limits, but this is a heavily wooded area and police say there is a 15 foot drop down to the creek below.
A man, who was looking for his uncle, says he found the body. He ran and called 9-1-1. Now, the family is scared to death that it could be their uncle. They haven’t seen him since Thursday, and they know he liked to go down to the creek to be alone.
As of Saturday afternoon, emergency crews are ruling the incident as an accidental drowning. They do not have a positive ID on the body, and have not said whether it was a man or a woman. They do not know how long the body has been there. However, police say they found a coat lying nearby.
