GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Gallipolis city leaders are taking steps to ban pit bulls in the city limits.

The legislation being proposed by City Commissioners is the result of a 13-year-old girl being attacked by two dogs late last month.

According to the Gallipolis City Solicitor, the current city code does not ban pit bulls, but defines them as vicious dogs.

The proposed change would make it a 1st degree misdemeanor if a person has a pit bull in the city limits.

For all you stupid idiots. listen up. I have had my pit for 3 years now. raised her around my son. NEVER ONCE has she showed a tendency to bite. she loves everyone who crosses her path. But on the other half she has her canine good citizen, been to obedience school, and socalized in the correct manner. the owners are the ones who should be held responsible for their dogs. it is a proven fact that if a dog is tethered outside it will show agression tendencies. duh. I just think people need to grow up and take a look at the other end of the leash. if my pit is outside she is chained. never left unattended. which is the way they all should be. if your gonna own the breed, please take responsiblity for your dogs. raise them right. and for the little girl, sorry to hear about it but where was your mother. my god i mean come on. she should of been supervised.my son is never left alone with ANY dog.even a chichuahua.if people would only wake up and look at the obvious.the other end of theleash
