Creek Floods School

Too much rain in too little time caused some flooding problems Wednesday night.

The rain came down so fast that there was high water near Kenna Elementary School in Jackson, County, West Virginia.

The water has receded, but Wednesday night, the creek was out of its banks and in the school.

Eight classrooms were flooded at Kenna, along with the school's gym and storage closet.

Crews worked all night and most of Thursday sanitizing and cleaning up the rooms.

Several fans were also brought in to help dry the floors.

Cora Jones, Kenna Elementary Principal, said "It was very surprising because at Fairplain we had a storm, but nothing to make me think that there was enough water to flood the school. Usually, I can tell if there's enough water to flood the school. Usually I can tell and I'll come check the school, but last night the water was truly too fast."

Kenna will re-open Friday morning.
