HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An investigation is underway after a Marshall University student was found dead in a dorm room Monday night.

It happened just before 11 p.m. in the Twin Towers West dorm on MU's campus. We're told the student was male.

Marshall University Communications Director, Bill Bissett, tells WSAZ.com that investigators are considering it an unattended death, but no foul play is suspected.

"We ask that both the public and the media remain patient until more information is released," said Bissett. "The university hopes to have have that information sometime Tuesday."

Huntington Police and Marshall University Police are both working the case.

Bissett says the university is working to notify the student's family.

I think most of the students at the school now know the circumstances of this young man's death. This is a HORRIBLE thing to have happened and a miserable way to leave this world. I can't imagine the desperation this young man felt. As a student I can honestly say that I do not think the pressures of class would cause anyone to take their own life. I was a chemistry major and, though it was stressful, it never made me contemplate taking my own life. Some people just have mental problems. I have terrible anxiety and know how you can feel like no longer living would be a lot easier than feeling depressed or anxious, but I REALLY don't think school alone can do that to you. I know that Marshall has a decent counseling system, but they need to have a suicide hotline and/or flyers up around campus. With 2 suicides in one academic year, i think we have a severe problem. My prayers go out to his family, friends, acquaintances and the RA who found him. I hope this does not happen at MU again.

i would just like to return once more in hopes that there has been a solution and or answer to the questions for the family and friends of the young man who lost his life. and pray they have the strength they need to hold on to the good times they shared with this fine young man. to the friends who had class with him when you walk down the hall monday and see his empth seat lay a rose on his desk. or picture him there. and when you think of the laughs you shared feel the warmth overcome your body and know that he is there watching over you.God Bless each of you who have ever passed by this youg mans life

I would like to say that being a former student at Marshall, the school is way more than a slight headache. There is too much pressure on the students, and being one, I also realize the stress from other students to be socially accepted. Its is a tragedy, and so many students don't use the counseling services in my opinion because they feel as if they will automatically be dubbed crazy. As well as Carrie, I think it is great that you write in on your own blogs to provide clarity. The media these days don't care enough and really don't check their sources. I applaud your efforts to provide accurate news. However, I am glad to be finally away from West Virginia where people who claim to be educated still are some of the first to make highly uneducated assumptions. Being in broadcast journalism myself once upon a time and having met Carrie myself, I know what I mean when I say she is probably thoroughly more educated in the subject than any of you.
