RUSSELL, Ky. (WSAZ) -- CSX laid off 37 workers at two facilities in the region Tuesday.
35 workers from Russell, Kentucky and two from the Huntington office have been let go. Company spokesman Bob Sullivan says this is a result of the slumping economy.
Sullivan says the workers are from the mechanical side. They are train drivers or equipment operators.
Sullivan says CSX hopes to bring the workers back, but it depends on the future of the economy.
Last week, CSX furloughed eleven workers at its Russell facility as part of a 1600 worker furlough across the country.

I pray for so many of your families. Your right saying they need to make better choices with their money. The commment about big money jobs, to make it you have to have big money jobs when you have a family. Its just sad cause finding jobs these days is extremely hard even at fast food you would think that since csx being high up on the chains that they would think more of their employees than that to send them home to their families empty handed. some may be able to drawl unemployment but what about the ones who cant? this is just so sad. since the layoffs there has been nothing said about the progress that theyve made are they going to be calling back or not they shouldn't leave their employees hanging on a limb.
For as long as I can remember, the railroad has screwed people in this area around. History has shown that every time they have a layoff, its always an economic downturn in business. Not problems with upper level management, or horrible spending habits by management, or any number of things that have absolutely nothing to do with the average worker. Most people get in their heads, Railroad-big money, not thinking about being laid off at the drop of a hat. Thats the price people pay for wanting big money jobs.
Ted, it would seem to make more sence for a train master or whomever to take the EOT. After all they do enough hiding around in the bushes and putting eggs in the track, they really could do something more productive.
