A former House Education Chairman has been indicted on federal charges.
Jerry Mezzatesta faces federal charges of defrauding the school board and misappropriating public funds.
The charges center around a 75-thousand dollar grant for Hampshire County schools. The indictment alleges Mezzatesta diverted the money to gain an advantage in his 2004 re-election campaign. Mezzatesta's attorney says all the money was used properly and for the children of the county.
If found guilty, Mezzatesta could spend up to 15 years in prison.
