The Democratic party's rising star, Illinois Senator Barack Obama, was in Charleston Saturday.

He served as the keynote speaker for a Democratic fundraiser.

Obama was not the only speaker for the annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner.

Senator Robert Byrd and Governor Joe Manchin also addressed the crowd of more than two thousand.

Tickets for the dinner were hard to come by.

They sold out several weeks ago, setting a new record.

Senator Obama said he has a lot of respect for Senator Byrd.

Obama said, "He's been very gracious to me my first two years in the senate. He's beloved by everybody in the Senate and he continues to amaze at his capacity to focus on the issues."
