A lieutenant with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department is still recuperating from a motorcycle accident he had last April. It's been an emotional and expensive recovery, but on Saturday, riders hopped on their bikes to help out.

Lieutenant Dan Clarkson has spent twenty years helping the community, but now, the community is helping him.

“I really, really appreciate all the people that came out,” said Clarkson. “When it started, the weather wasn't like this. It was really nasty and it was raining and everything else."

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department organized the motorcycle ride. It was to raise money for Lieutenant Clarkson to help pay the costs of his medical bills. Clarkson was injured in April while riding his bike.

“I hit something on the road and it threw me into the windshield,” said Clarkson. “I landed on my back and it immediately felt numb.”

He says he is doing better today, and is hoping to be back on the job soon.

“I love my job,” said Clarkson. “I love serving the people of Kanawha County."

He loves it so much he's not going to let anything stop him from getting back to work.
