Fatal Accident Kept Route 61 Closed For Hours

Video will be available shortly

It's the breaking news we've been covering all morning, where emergency crews are trying to figure out what caused a deadly accident.

It happened around 7am Monday morning on Route 61 between Crown Hill and East Bank.
Police say John Lawrence Seacrist drove into a ditch, and then went back across the road, hit a guard rail and a tractor trailer head on.
Seacrist died at the scene. He's 32 years old and from Alum Creek.
Police took the driver of the truck to the hospital with injuries not considered serious.

Police say this roadway is known for serious accidents. Chief Bobby Shanlin of the East Bank VFD : “Slow down and pay a lot of attention to the side of the road. You can drop of the roadway and you are going to straight down in the ditch. There's nothing that saves you from going in between.”

Kanawha County Schools transportation department urges those who live in the Crown Hill area to call your school to make arrangements after school. This will affect those who attend Pratt, East Bank Middle and Riverside.
