Video: 11pm: Hurricane Murder-Suicide
OCTOBER 2, 2006 -- Putnam County authorities are investigating the fatal shootings of a husband and wife near Hurricane as a murder-suicide.
Police discovered the victims' bodies in a neighbor's yard on Sterling Drive, just off Cow Creek-Sprindale Road, at about 6:30 pm Monday evening. Putnam County Prosecutor Mark Sorsaia identified the victims as Doug and Brenda Beckett, both in their 40s.
"It's a tragedy and our prayers and thoughts go out to family members, and we're doing the best we can to sort this out," said Sorsaia.
Sorsaia says a woman called 9-1-1 asking for help and minutes later, a neighbor also called to report gunshots. The prosecutor says police believe Doug Beckett shot his wife as she fled the couple's house and then killed himself.
