HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The second annual Rylee’s Rally Resource Fair drew hundreds Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Field House.
Rylee’s Rally was created by three local mothers, Deborah Davis, Jessie Slash and Shellie Mellert- all three have special needs children- the rally is named after Deborah Davis’s daughter Rylee.
“Our main goal is to make sure families get the care they need right here locally and that they know there’s people here ready, willing and able to help them with their children,” Deborah Davis said.
The resource fair connects families with doctors and services, 80 vendors were on display at Saturday’s event.
“Having this resource fair allows parents to come through and see what would benefit their family, and it allows them to learn, because we know now that knowledge is power,” said organizer Jessie Slash
Before Rylee’s Rally some parents found it difficult to find information for their special needs kids.
“We actually have two boys with special needs, and we had to learn on our own,” Slash said.
That is why this event is so popular, not only does it provide information, but it also brings families out of isolation.
“We are able to not just have support for each other, but were able to understand what each family is going through,” Slash said.
Families and Organizers are already looking forward to next years rally.
