West Virginia State Police say he was planning to rob the United Bank in Big Chimney when he arrived around 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The problem: the bank closed at 4:00 and the doors were already locked.
Troopers say when the potential bank robber realized the doors were locked the suspect tried to get a customer using an ATM to get bank employees to unlock the door. The customer refused, fought with the suspected robber, then chased him outside where he hopped into a black Hyundai Elantra with duct tape over the plate.
The suspected bank robber got away with two checkbooks. He's described as in his 20's to 30's, medium build, 5'6" to 5'9" wearing a jean jacket. If you have any information, call the West Virginia State Police.
