Another presidential hopeful made a stop in our region on Saturday. Senator Joseph Biden made a campaign stop in our area. He stopped by to help out some local candidates.

It wasn't all handshakes and smiles on Saturday in Greenup County, Kentucky, but that is how the campaigning began.

United States Senator Joseph Biden, of Delaware, made his first stop on a tour to help promote democratic candidates across Kentucky.

The senator of nearly 34 years is one of the most recognizable faces in the democratic party. His message was about building momentum at the local level in hopes of building support for a democratic presidential candidate, especially in a state that voted republican in 2004.

“People say why am I in Kentucky, it’s not an early primary state,” said Biden. “Because it makes a gigantic difference as to whether or not when we gain back the white house, if it’s me or anybody else, to be able to deal with an energy policy, and an education policy."

With aspirations for the White House, Biden's grassroots tour also served as a chance to let local voters and politicians get familiar with him.

Biden is the ranking minority member of the senate's sub-committee on foreign relations and criticized the republican administration for not having what he called “sturdy plans” for the country's foreign and domestic future.

“I think what people are really concerned about is the lack of a plan,” said Biden. “They look down the road and don't know what is coming.”

It’s a plan Biden says he has, and is ready to shake on.
