Students from South Charleston Middle School didn’t spend their day at the mall or in front of a computer, but with veterans instead. They joined others across the region for Thanks! Plain and Simple day.

West Virginia's only living Congressional Medal of Honor recipient released the balloons, representing all the West Virginia soldiers lost during the past five years.

That was the point of Thanks! Plain and Simple day at the Charleston Cultural Center.
It was to show support to the men and women in the armed forces who risk their lives to protect this country. That's why the South Charleston Middle School students came to the event.

World War II veteran Woody Williams says the only reason this country is free is because of the military.

“It's our military that keeps us in the position we are of being a free people,” said Williams. “So we need to be honor and thank them for what they're doing.”

The balloons released were not even a fraction of the significance for all the lives lost for freedom.
