Two men put themselves at risk over the weekend to help catch the suspects in a robbery at the Rite Aid on Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington.
Police say it began when Michael Anthony Smith( and John Henry Lester went inside the store late Saturday. Security guard John Maynard noticed the suspects stuffing items in their clothing, and he tried to stop them. They allegedly attacked the guard, got away and ran through a local housing project. Shawn Windsor and Michael Butler saw what was happening and they joined the pursuit. The suspects yelled threats to shoot anyone who chased them, but that didn’t stop Windsor and Butler. They chased down the suspects and held them until police arrived. The security guard says he never would have caught the suspects if Windsor and Butler hadn’t gotten involved. John Maynard said, “There are still good kids out there, and these two proved it and I’m proud of them.”
Windsor lives in Northcott Court and says he decided to get involved because there were several young kids outside and he was worried what might happen if someone didn’t stop the suspects. A third man also helped detain the suspects, but police didn’t get his name before he left the scene.
