"It's as close to the Oscars as you can get in West Virginia," Keith Spears from Marshall University announced Wednesday afternoon.
Marshall University officials announced details for the upcoming world premiere of "We Are Marshall". All of the stars of the movie are expected to attend. The movie, starring Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox, will open in Huntington two days prior to the Hollywood opening.
5000 people will be able to see the premiere at different venues in Huntington. Ticket prices will range from $25 to $1000. Tickets will go on sale sometime in November.
Marquee Cinemas plans to play the movie on all 16 screens at the Pullman Square cinema. That will account for 2800 of the available tickets. Those tickets cost $25.
There will be 2200 available seats at the Keith-Albee theater in downtown Huntington. Those festivities include a pre-film reception, movie screening and post-film gala.
For $250, you can attend the movie and gala.
For $500, you will get improved seating closer to the stars for the screening plus the gala.
For $1000, you will get the closest access to the stars, a trip to the gala and pre-film reception.
There will be a green carpet that lines 4th avenue to the Keith-Albee theater. The stars will walk the green carpet in front of a line of bleachers that will be open to the public.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit Marshall University.
"We Are Marshall" tells the story of the Marshall University football team in the aftermath of the plane crash in 1970 that killed the team and its support staff. Family members of the victims will be invited to a private matinee screening of the movie on the day of the Hollywood premiere.
