Lara Carder's Life

Earlier this month another family was torn apart tragically. Jason Carder shot and killed his wife Lara Carder and another man, Brian Shockley of California, before turning the gun on himself. Lara had a restraining order against her estranged husband Jason. The couple left behind a 15 month old son. But the sad story doesn't end here.

Lara Carder's family says there is so much more to her - than what the public saw on October 3rd.

Maxine Turley says it has been prayer and faith that has helped her family cope. That, along with the love of friends.

“It’s just the only way we can get through it actually, is to have this support,” said Turley.

But Lara's story didn't end on that night. Lara wanted to be an organ donor if anything happened. Her heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and much of her body's tissues were donated to help others.

Jason and Lara's 15-month old son, Sam, is the only survivor from that tragic night. But, thanks to Lara's giving nature, others will live on as well.

It was an incident with a negative outcome, but with a family that made a positive choice.

Lara's family says they are still close with Jason Carder's family.

If you are interested in becoming an organ donor you can either fill out a form when you renew your driver's license or simply make your wishes known to your family.
