A campaign rally turned violent this weekend in Lincoln County, West Virginia.
Now one of the candidates for sheriff faces criminal charges.
According to court records, Clayton Alford is charged with assault and battery.
The criminal complaint states Alford hit Judy Johnson in the face during a campaign rally Saturday at Harts High School.
Johnson works as the county administrator.
Alford is a write-in candidate for Lincoln County Sheriff.
WSAZ NewsChannel 3 talked with Alford Monday, but he would not comment on the charges.
