Man Shot after Shooting at Deputy

NOVEMBER 5, 2006 -- A man is in the hospital after he allegedly shot at a sheriff's deputy in Boone County Sunday night.

Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller says the suspect, Danny Ray Holstein, 41 of Julian, flagged down the deputy while he was responding to a domestic dispute call on Camp Creek Road near Julian. When the deputy approached, Miller says Holstein aimed a gun at the deputy and fired two shots, but missed.

The deputy returned fire and hit Holstein in the torso and leg. He was taken to CAMC General in Charleston. Miller says Holstein will face wanton endangerment charges when he is released from the hospital.

The deputy was not hurt in the incident.
