November 17, 2006 -- State Police in Kanawha County are investigating a collision between a CSX freight train and an empty coal truck. No one was injured in the accident, which occurred at about 7:30 Friday morning at an ungated crossing in the Crown Hill area along Route 61.

The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Larry Stollings of Logan County, says he'd just dropped a load of coal on a dock and was crossing the track to get back on 61 when the train struck his trailer.

Stollings says the train engineer didn't sound the whistle until impact, but the engineer says a warning whistle went out long before that. The coal truck was dragged several hundred feet and struck an empty pickup truck parked along the track.

Another train-vehicle collision is under investigation by the Summers County Sheriff's Department. No one was seriously injured in that accident. It happened at about 9 o'clock Thursday night in the Lowell area.
