W.Va. State GOP Director Leaving Post
West Virginia's GOP Executive Director announced Wednesday he's leaving his post this month.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia's GOP Executive Director announced Wednesday he's leaving his post.
Gary Abernathy tells WSAZ.com he's leaving West Virginia to return to Ohio for personal reasons. His wife and family live in Southern Ohio.
Abernathy was hired back in December on a month-to-month basis with the agreement that he would make a decision at the end of June on whether to stay on full time. Abernathy told the party chairman Doug McKinney on Tuesday he was planning to leave the position to be with his family.
"I will miss West Virginia," Abernathy said. "I love the politics here as frustrating as it can be sometimes for Republicans in the state."
Abernathy plans to take a government job in Ohio. He also plans to stay involved in politics and help with campaigns there.
Right now, no one is up for Abernathy's position. McKinney is expected to appoint an interim director before making a decision on a full time candidate.
