Shadyside Tunnel Closed

Over the weekend, we told you the Shadyside tunnel closed because of a collapse. As of Sunday, it was still not open and that could add minutes to your morning commute.

One old tunnel is a new found inconvenience for people living in and near St. Albans.

Bill and Mary Wickiser live in the Riverbend subdivision. They and the 200 other families living there aren't stopping on red. Instead, the color is orange!

Bill Downs just wanted to see his mom and dad.

“It doesn't really happen too much, but when it does it's frustrating and time consuming,” said Downs.

With the short tunnel out of service, drivers can tack on an extra 15 to 20 minutes for their commute. But for those who need to get somewhere fast, they've found feet work just as well.

They’re all looking for a light at the end of the tunnel that needs a few repairs!

Some people say they are worried about emergency vehicles being able to get to homes quickly without the bridge. Others around the area believe it should have been fixed already. As for the detours, drivers have two options. They can get to St. Albans through Ferrell Road, going through Tornado. Or, they have the option of going through Smith Creek. Either way, it will cost extra time!

There has been no word yet on when any repairs will get made.
