Authorities continued to search late Monday for a former West Virginia man they say tried to blow up a meth lab before shooting an off-duty deputy in South Carolina a day earlier.

Richland County, South Carolina, Sheriff Leon Lott says Mark Randolph Browning is considered armed and dangerous. Deputies arrested a woman who was with the 36-year-old outdoorsman but fled when the shooting started. Patricia Schober was apprehended yesterday afternoon after she came out of hiding.

Browning was out of jail on an 18-thousand dollar bond on assault and drug charges in Kershaw County, South Carolina, when Corporal Larry Payne and state Constable Mark Gill came across a makeshift methamphetamine laboratory near Blythewood.

Lott says Browning told Payne he wasn't going back to jail and would -- quote -- "blow everybody up." He says Browning then pulled out a lighter and threw it at the lab. The sheriff says Payne was hospitalized after being shot in the thigh and chest.

Moments later Browning escaped into the woods. It's not clear where Browning lived in West Virginia but officials say he's lived in South Carolina since 2004.
