WESTMORELAND, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The federal stimulus money is starting to make its way into our communities.

It might help you get your home weatherized for free.

In Huntington alone, the Weatherization Program picked up an additional $3 million.

"My house is really old and it doesn't have any insulation," Fallie Williams said.

But soon Fallie Williams' home will get an overhaul to be more energy efficient. On a humid Spring day, she's looking ahead to Winter.

"Even if I turned the heat up, it would be maybe 60 degrees it didn't get hot in here," Williams said.

Work crews with a local community action office are doing the rehab. Most families, enrolled in the program, see their utility bills cut by at least 25%.

"We insulate their homes attics, their homes, caulking around windows and hopefully, the ultimate goal is to save energy," Kenneth Shank with the Southwestern Community Action Council said.

Connie Sherrill runs the program and needs more warehouse space. New stimulus money from the government means more work crews will be hired to weatherize almost 400 more homes in four counties.

"The money they're going to be saving is going to help them put money back into their pockets, to use towards medicine, more food, or just to help them pay on their utility bills," Connie Sherrill said.

You have to meet certain income guidelines in order to qualify for the free weatherization upgrades.

Southwestern Community Action covers Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln and Mason Counties. The phone number is (304) 525-5151. You can also contact the local community action office in your area for help.

We very much need Weatherization help. Our furnace needs help, our gas bill went up to $700 Jan.-March. It had never been $300. Due to sudden health issues our income nosedived and our gas has been shut off. Any help would be so appreciated. Can you point me in the right direction to get advice and/or help?
