CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man was killed after police say his estranged wife walked in to the ICU at CAMC Memorial Hospital and
shot him.
It happened just before 2 p.m. on the third floor of the Charleston Area Medical Center's Kanawha City facility.
Charleston Police say 53-year-old Rhonda Stewart walked in and used a handgun to shoot 56-year-old Sammy Lee Stewart in the head. He died a short time later. According to police, Sammy Stewart was a patient at the hospital in the ICU and was soon going to be transferred to a regular room.
According to the criminal complaint, the couple had been estranged for three years. But on Saturday when Rhonda went to visit Sammy, some sort of argument broke out and Rhonda was asked to leave.
A short time later, she went back to the hospital and shot him in the head with a pistol, the complaint states. Then, she walked out of the room and handed the pistol to a doctor.
Rhonda Stewart stayed at the hospital after the shooting and was arrested a short time later. She's been charged with first degree murder. According to police, Rhonda admitted to the shooting.
The two lived in the Elkview area of Kanawha County.

Don't blame Nurses! I know a child that was there for a long time & must say most all of the nurses done their jobs and more even if their was disagreements along the way, both families and nurses care about the patients and both are trying to do what is best for the patients! Trauma cases are sad for everyone when it involves a (child) or any patient who is there because they are severely injured for life by the acts of others in a crime. Some of these nurses has been through this in their families and they do care and understand what patients & families go through, the hurt, feelings of helplessness, bitterness, and anger! I think a Higher Power is among Patients,Doctors, Nurses, & Families during horrible times of life and death and it touches so many people in different ways, even some AMBULANCE workers! With high crime now days & getting worse, better protection is needed inside & outside of hospitals, parking buildings & lots. The BIG ISSUE THESE DAYS IS SAFTY & TRUST? TRUST WHO?
I would like for everyone to know that Sammy was a very good man. I have known him for years. I would never believed he would have harmed anyone. My prayers go out to his children and his brother Bill.
I know these people. There is a long, sad history here. Please, be kind in your comments, there are children, grandchildren, and other family member having to deal with the aftermath of this sad episode. Pray for them, do not hate the sinner just the sin. To the Stewart and Boyd family's. Many people are praying for you all.
