NEW INFO: 14-Year-Old Charged in Elderly Woman's Murder
While Charleston Police still aren't saying how Phyllis Phares died or releasing the name of the suspect, they will say that the 14-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder. On Wednesday, the Kanawha County prosecutor said he plans to ask a judge to elevate this case to adult status.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- While Charleston Police still aren't saying how Phyllis Phares died or releasing the name of the suspect, they will say that the 14-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder.
On Wednesday, the Kanawha County prosecutor said he plans to ask a judge to elevate this case to adult status. Police said they have been working around the clock on this case since Sunday.
The prosecutor said if this case is upgraded to adult status, it will take a few weeks. The teenager also is facing sexual assault charges in an unrelated case.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police in Charleston have arrested a teenager in connection with the murder of an elderly woman.
The suspect is a 14-year-old male, so they are not releasing his name.
Police say Phyllis Phares was found dead in her home on the city's West Side Sunday evening. Police have yet to say how she died.
Phares was 82-year-old and she lived alone.
Right now, the teen is being charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors hope to try him as an adult.

ORIGINAL STORY
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police have ruled the death of an elderly woman a homicide after she was found dead at her home on Charleston's west side.
The call came in to police at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. When officers arrived at the house is on Frame Street, they found 82-year-old Phyllis Jean Phares dead inside.
Evidence technicians spent most of the night processing the crime scene. Police still aren't releasing how the woman was killed or when she may have died. They say they're following up on some leads.
Neighbors tell WSAZ.com that the victim hadn't been seen for about 24 hours -- and that she lived alone in the house. They also say that earlier in the night, the victim's daughter walked onto the porch and apparently saw her mother through the window and had an emotional outburst.
"We have all our detectives working this case. We're throwing all our resources at this point," said Sergeant S.A. Cooper, chief of the Charleston Police Criminal Investigations Division.
Police haven't confirmed if there are any suspects in the case, but they are asking anyone with information to contact them at (304) 348-6480.

I watched this story an it made my heart hurt for these kids ,i heard the people say that they had made reports on this family and nothing was done the worker stated that want is suitable for one family is not be for other that was just to cover her butt as a fomer foster child I can tell you that this is bull there is nowhere to put the kids so the kids are left with the family no matter want I was abused by my dad in every way I told a worker one time and the cops an my case worker came the next day and told my dad that i report it i told him did not but she left and i got beat and to say this home was suitable is dum i lived that way as a kid and it is hard for a kid to live that way the guide lines need to be rewrote the workers need to start stepping up and getting these baby out of that thank god I was finlly removed from my home or i would have been with a baby that would have been my dads or dead one , thankfully i had god watching over me people step and an take care of the kid

bonn, DO NOT TELL ME YOU WOULDN'T FEEL DIFFERENTLY IF YOUR FAMILY MEMBER WAS MURDERED! I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU! I agree with April Jun 18-I don't think people in prison deserve big gymn equipment and free college education. Why should people in prison have more than some honest, hard working people can afford? Also, some people are beyond rehab, no matter how much love you should them. So, bonn, how about YOU take this 14yr old into YOUR HOME, show him love and how murdering an innocent 82yr old woman is forgiven. Oh, and while your doing THIS good deed, go ahead and pay for his existence, food, clothing, roof over his head, college education, etc, FOR THE NEXT 70 YEARS! Frankly, I'm not interested in ANY of my $$$ going to benefit him. Kids need love AND DISCIPLINE! But, it's too late for him. You don't wait til they're 14 to discipline. Even if you wait til they're 4, you're already behind. Kids learn MUCH earlier than that! They're not stupid, but some people sure are!
