A local doctor is facing DUI charges Monday after police say he caused a wreck on the Oakwood Road exit of Interstate 64 in Charleston. It happened just before 4pm.
Charleston Police say Dr. Todd Lares rear-ended another car while getting off the highway. Officers gave him three different sobriety tests after smelling alcohol on his breath. They say Dr. Lares failed all of them.
"Lares had glassy eyes and spoke with slurred speech," said Patrolman Brian Lightner in the criminal complaint. "He was also unsteady as he walked along the exit ramp."
Police say his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, registering at 0.164.
Lares is charged with first offense DUI. A magistrate let him go on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond.
Medical websites show Dr. Lares practices medicine in Charleston, Ripley, and Spencer.
