Fishy Smell Still Around
DuPont is offering help to Kanawha Valley residents who can't get a fishy smell from a chemical leak out of their cars, clothes or other items.
The leak occurred Saturday at DuPont's Belle plant after a piping flange failed to remain sealed, releasing trimethylamine, a colorless, smelly gas, into the air. There also was a fire. No injuries were reported.
DuPont officials say residents should air out affected items to get rid of the smell. If that doesn't work, residents should call the plant gate at (304) 357-1000. Callers will be transferred to a company staffer who can assist them.
