Mine Crisis Averted in Mingo

UPDATE: The three men who have been inside a mine in Mingo County since Monday have walked out, confirms a state spokesperson.

911 dispatchers say the men went into the Jennie’s Creek Mine in Kermit. This is an idle mine run by Advantage Mining and owned by Massey.

A mine rescue team was sent to Mingo County to look for the men, but they walked out before teams arrived.

A family member called 911 at about 9:30 Tuesday morning to report the incident. Dispatchers say the their car was near the opening of the mine. A mine rescue team, state police, & the emergency services director all responded to the scene.

Dispatchers say the family member who called in also said the men may have gone in to steal copper.
